The presentations, scheduled for this Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, will include, among others, José Luis Ordoñez, spokesman for the state coordinator, representatives of the Almeria and Murcia platform in defense of the train, as well as engineers, environmentalists, geographers and historians.
The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos has presented, this morning, together with the spokesman of the Platform in Defense of the Railroad of the Region of Murcia, Antonio del Campo, the conference "The Southeast Railway. By a Public, Social and Sustainable Train" , which will be held at Casa Huerto Ruano on October 4 and 5.
The mayor has detailed that "during these two days we will talk in our city about the situation of the railroad in our country, as well as the backbone that it implies for the territory. In these days they will bring together experts in the field and that they are open to the general public that is interested in these issues. "
For its part, the coordinator of these days, Antonio del Campo, recalled that "this Platform aims to defend a Public, Social and Sustainable Train and for them, the groups of the provinces of Almería, Granada and Jaén, we have programmed, with the endorsement of the State Coordinator for the Public, Social and Sustainable Train, these days dedicated to the railroad in the southeast of Spain ".
Del Campo has reiterated that "the choice of Lorca is not accidental, since it is a unique enclave in the future Basic Spanish Rail Network, within the Basic Trans-European Rail Network, which will be defined by the European Commission in 2023, which will be put into service in 2030, within the European Union's rail policy known as "Connecting Europe" and within the framework of the EU measures to reduce gas emissions with greenhouse effect by 60% in the field of transport, in 2050 ".
For the coordinator of these days, "Lorca must be consolidated as the capital of the Guadalentín on the Spanish railway map, and play an important role as a fundamental link in the connections of Granada and Almeria with the rest of the Mediterranean Corridor."
From the Platform in Defense of the Railroad of the Region of Murcia argue that "the reopening of the Lorca-Almanzora-Baza-Guadix line, taking advantage of much of its route, updating the infrastructure and improving curves and slopes, is one of the proposals that from the different platforms we have been claiming, to promote the Mediterranean Corridor within the aforementioned basic network, so that freight trains can circulate alongside commuter trains, regional trains and long distance trains. "
Program of the conference
The conference will be inaugurated this Friday, October 4, starting at 7:30 p.m. by the mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos and the spokesman for the Platform in defense of the Murcia Region Railroad, Antonio del Campo.
At 20h the inaugural conference "Lorca in the Basic Spanish Rail Network" will be held by José Luis Ordoñez, spokesman for the state coordinator for the Public, Social and Sustainable Train.
For Saturday, October 5, at 9:30 a.m., the reception of the participants and the presentation of the speakers at 9: 45h is planned.
At 10 am it will be the turn of the talk "Almeria, Mediterranean link" by Eduardo Gabín Muñoz, a graduate in History and a member of the Almeria Platform for the Public, Social and Sustainable Train.
At 10:30 a.m., Luis Marín López, a former rail traffic supervisor at Adif stations, will talk about "Linares-Baeza, a crossroads in two-speed Spain."
After a coffee break, at 11:30 a.m. the presentations will be resumed with the educator and member of the Granada Platform for the Train, Carlos Peña, who will talk about "Granda and the Andalusian Axis".
At 12 o'clock it will be the turn of Antonio del Campo, railway, former member of the Renfe Board of Directors.

For 13h the panel of experts is planned, under the title "The railroad as a backbone of the territory" and will feature Pedro Costa, ecologist, engineer and National Environment Award 1998, Diego Jiménez, professor of geography and History and Articulist , and Domingo Centenero, Doctor of History and professor at IES Ibáñez Martín de Lorca.
From 13:30 hours there will be time for interventions by the audience and at 14 hours a manifesto will be read and the conference will be closed.
