The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has lamented the extraordinary interest of the Popular Party and PSOE to undertake the remodeling of the Plaza de Toros de Lorca while the Escarambrujo complex, declared of Cultural Interest (BIC), and which forms part of the municipal heritage after the free transfer made to the City by its previous owners, "falls apart."
Martín explained that on September 11 he sent a letter to the Councilor for Heritage, Isidro Abellán (PSOE) requesting that they expedite the efforts aimed at the execution of the consolidation, recovery and rehabilitation project of this enclave, one of the most important constructions that houses the municipality within the historical heritage legacy.
However, more than a month later "we have not received any response."
The mayor of Izquierda Unida recalled that the complex has a subsidy of € 800,000.00 within the Master Plan for the restoration of the cultural heritage of Lorca.
The work should be “already advanced”, since on December 31, 2020 the deadline to justify the works of the master plan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) ends, after the last extension granted.
However, "the work has even been tendered" and El Escarambrujo continues to deteriorate, "day after day", without the owner of the complex, the City Council itself, which is the one who has the obligation to keep it, do nothing to avoid it.
For this reason, Martín has demanded the municipal government team of the PSOE and Cs to be as “diligent” to address this IU-Verdes claim “as it has been to respond to the PP's claims regarding Sutullena's costing”.
For the councilwoman of IU-Verdes it is “inexplicable” that a space that “did not cost a hard to the Lorca”, that has financing for its recovery and that, unlike the bullring, has a legal protection figure of heritage, "be abandoned to their fate."
