The Down Syndrome Foundation of the Region of Murcia (Fundown), which serves monthly an average of 300 users and their families, will promote the labor inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in Lorca in ordinary companies located in this territory.
An objective that it intends to achieve after signing a collaboration agreement with the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Lorca and the Regional Confederation of Business Organizations (CECLOR).
According to Irene Molina, coordinator of the Fundown employment area, "this objective may be possible thanks to the support and involvement of these two organizations."
In this way, Fundown consolidates the actions it is developing in recent months through the 'Todos Ganan' project, framed in the 'More Employment' program financed by the social work 'la Caixa' within the Operational Program of Social Inclusion and Economy Social of the European Social Fund.
This program, which has been developed in the municipalities of Águilas, Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras since mid-2017, allows for work orientation, intermediation with companies, training in professional and transversal skills for its participants, as well as training in the own job.
Thus, the objective is to significantly improve the chances of finding and maintaining a job for people who belong to this group.
The actions to be carried out, both with the Chamber of Commerce of Lorca and with CECLOR, "are very important for the achievement of labor inclusion actions, since they will focus on the dissemination and awareness of their associated companies, thus being able to establish contact later by the technicians responsible for the project to raise awareness of the possibilities and capabilities for the defense of a job by the participants, "added Molina.
The results of the implementation of this project in the region of Lorca show so far highly positive data that corroborate the importance and suitability of projects that promote the entry into ordinary work of people who are sufficiently prepared for it.
To date, 92 people with intellectual disabilities so far this year have been part of this project, of which 80 have participated in training activities aimed at employment.
"Likewise, it is essential to emphasize that the participation of ordinary companies in the area is increasingly pronounced, having implemented a total of 23 contracts since the beginning of the year and so far," concludes Irene Molina.
