So in the first place it was decided to transfer the original embroidery to a new support of similar characteristics in more than 90%, both in thread composition and in ornamental brocade ".
For his part, the artistic director of the Paso Azul, Miguel García Peñarrubia, explained that "it has been an extremely delicate work, which has required great skill and skill, since the support had to house the original composition perfectly of embroidery, and it must be aligned in weft and warp. "
García Peñarrubia has affirmed that "for the fixation of gold a canutillo with similar characteristics to the original has been used, both in thickness and in tonality, in such a way that in those small gaps that required it, they are perfectly reintegrated with the original."
In addition, for the central medallion, silk thread of the same characteristics as the original one has been used, this time the technique of the 'lost point' has been used, which consists of filling in those lost areas and of which there is documentation, with the same shades than the original.
It is a technique very similar to that used in the restoration of painting and sculpture, through pointillism.
The ornamental shields have also been restored and preserved, introducing a new synthetic fiber filling, to avoid the appearance of xylophagous insects that could damage the original support, and finally the lace was introduced in the same way and technique as it originally came out.
The president of the Paso Azul, José María Miñarro, has expressed his gratitude to the Brotherhood of La Virgen de las Huertas, to his directive through its president, "for the trust placed in the Workshop of the Paso Azul, for the realization of this process that has been carried out between the months of May and October of this year and in which five embroidery machines have worked that have invested a total of 2,200 hours of work ".
The dressmaker in charge of the restoration has been María del Carmen Hernández, and the embroiderers Lola López, Antonia Abellaneda, Josefa Sánchez, and María Miñarro, under the direction of Joaquín Bastida Gil and Miguel García Peñarrubia.
