The Consistory of Lorca decided to delay in a month the second payment of the IBI of the 44,000 people affected by the earthquake before the opportunity for a new central government of the PSOE to approve the planned bonus
The acting Government has on the table to reactivate the 50% bonuses in the Property Tax (IBI) to the Lorca affected by the earthquake of May 11, 2011, according to sources of the Ministry of Finance.
The only necessary condition to start them, before 2019, is to be able to form a government.
Citizens victims of earthquakes from eight years ago, have been waiting for access to bonuses since the beginning of 2019, which would mean a total of 7.5 million euros to be paid from the Central Government.
In fact, in October, the Consistory of Lorca decided to delay in a month the second payment of the IBI of the 44,000 people affected by the earthquake before the opportunity for a new central government of the PSOE to approve the bonus planned for this year, according to the Councilor for Finance, Isidro Abellán.
Days later, the Popular Parliamentary Group demanded that the national government reactivate such aid, in addition to the transfer of 3,000,000 euros to finance works and services of infrastructure, equipment and services of municipal ownership, as well as the waiver of interests and penalties for the delay of public aid derived from the earthquakes.
Ministry sources indicate that, among the measures contemplated in the General State Budget presented in February 2019, this bonus was included and, by not moving forward, these grants have not been able to be unlocked.
The same sources assure that "this commitment is still alive", and that they will study to undertake this 50% aid on the IBI in Lorca for the same when a government is formed.
Since the 2011 earthquakes were recorded, the Central Government, chaired by both PP and PSOE, has taken over IBI receipts for those affected by the earthquakes.
The bonus during the first years was 100%, while in the last it was 50%.
