The councilor of the United Left-Greens, Gloria Martín, has encouraged the municipal government team to join the 110 public agencies across the country that are investing in electricity consumption.
Martín has assured that since the decree that abolished the 'sun tax' was approved, in October 2018, the investment has skyrocketed up to about 22.8 million euros in projects totaling about 16 MW of power.
70% of the bidding processes correspond to local entities.
The municipalities also lead the commitment to the contracting of electricity with a guarantee of renewable origin.
"The figures give an idea of the growing interest of the public sector in promoting its own electricity generation facilities and we believe that Lorca should not be left behind."
Therefore, Martin has proposed that the city council promote small photovoltaic installations in public buildings.
Actions that could be financed by the ERDF Funds.
In that sense, the councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes has explained that, for example, the City of Murcia already has 27 photovoltaic installations connected to the network that generate 370 kW of solar energy and are located on the roofs of different buildings municipal as cultural centers, of majors, libraries, centers of health or museums, located so much in the city as in the districts.
Soon, the Murcian council will put into operation two other self-consumption photovoltaic installations in a municipal building dedicated to Local Police and in a public school.
Martín believes that the City of Lorca should focus on promoting renewable energy and, in particular, photovoltaic self-consumption as a means to develop an energy transition to a new sustainable model.
"We can and must fight in the defense of green energy and inexhaustible, cheap and non-polluting energy resources," said Martin, who also asks the City Council to conduct a feasibility study for the establishment of a framework supply agreement 100% renewable electricity.
