Gloria Martín denounced that the City Council is "saving" one million euros per year by not filling vacancies and retirement.
An effort that is emerging "from the ribs of the police" who are being forced to work in "painful" conditions, and that is detrimental to the safety of Lorca
The councilor of the United Left-Greens in the City of Lorca, Gloria Martín, has demanded that the municipal government team launch "immediately" the necessary calls for the provision, at least, of 24 agents of the Local Police Corps .
The mayor of IU-Verdes has explained that this number responds to the sum of the ten agents who have retired this year, to the four who have moved to the city of Cartagena through the mobility procedure, and to the ten places that It was planned to cover by means of a call that has been appealed by the Comisiones Obreras (CC.OO.) union "for the efforts of the municipal government not to comply with the Local Police Coordination Law of the Region of Murcia."
Martín recalled that the Law establishes that the maximum number of vacant places that can be filled by local police officers from other municipalities in the Region is 20%, while the City Council reserved 80% for the mobility quota.
In this regard, the mayor of IU-Greens has reproached the local government for its "lack of negotiating spirit," which has prevented the release of this situation and that aggravates the precarious situation of the workforce.
Gloria Martín denounced that the City Council is "saving" one million euros per year by not filling these vacancies and retirement.
An effort that "leaves the ribs of the policemen who are being forced to work in painful conditions" and that is detrimental to the safety of Lorca.
In this regard, the mayor of IU-Verdes lamented that "supposedly there is no money to open a bag of overtime to meet the needs of the service until the new places are provided, but to grant a productivity supplement of 1,672 euros per month to a high command of the Local Police. "
Martín wondered how this situation is combined with the electoral promises of the mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, and with his permanent criticism of the deficits in citizen security when the PSOE was in opposition.
And it is that the decrease of almost 20% of the workforce means that, for example, there are days when only two patrols are operational in Lorca between ten at night and six in the morning, one for the town center and another for districts in a municipal area of 1,700 km2.
In addition, during the afternoons and evenings there are no troops to monitor the premises of the Local Police headquarters.
Martin described these events as "very serious" and demanded that the next municipal budgets contemplate the sufficient items to undertake the Human Resources Management Plan of the City of Lorca, which should serve to fill the vacancies of these and other officials through public employment offers , and to stabilize and consolidate the employment of workers who have been linked to the Consistory for years.
