The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Tourism of the City of Lorca, Francisco Morales, held a working meeting in Madrid this morning with the president and director of the Association of Castles and Tourist Palaces of Spain, Javier Fitz-James and Mónica Brías respectively, in order to know the project first hand, as well as from the Association know Lorca and the work performed individually.
The recently constituted Castles and Palaces Tourism Product Club, has the support of the Secretary of State for Tourism and Turespaña, and what it intends is to gather in the same network the most important castles and palaces of Spain, both from the point of historical and architectural view, to contribute to its enhancement and for its dissemination and enjoyment by all.
The one in Lorca is one of the largest visitable castles in Spain.
Although there are more than 10,000 castles in our country, only a minority can be visited.
The Association of Castles and Tourist Palaces of Spain figures the potential of this product in 143 castles and palaces of tourist interest, which receive an annual volume of 5,625,000 visitors.
Francisco Morales has pointed out that his council has as a strategy "the impulse of cultural tourism that contributes to economic development, job creation and the revitalization of our tourism offer".
The mayor of Tourism has explained that the main objectives of this group are to promote the tourism sector of castles and palaces of Spain, as well as to teach and entertain by making known the history of Spain through our rich heritage.
For Morales, "being part of this Network is of great relevance to promote Lorca and its Castle given the visibility and exclusivity of this national Tourist Product Club; not all cities have a fortress and castle, much less the size and relevance of ours, protagonist of the border between Christian Europe and the last Muslim stronghold, namely, between the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada and the Kingdom of Castile. "
In addition, Francisco Morales, stressed that "the entry into this Network allows the dissemination of the Castle of Lorca through a technological platform www.spainheritagenetwork.com that facilitates its distribution to tour operators and the end customer. Through this tool users they may also know other complementary services to improve the experience of visiting our municipality, such as restaurants, accommodations and recommended tourist activities. "
The Department of Tourism of Lorca has been doing an important job to make Lorca become part of different product networks, such as the Castles Network of Spain itself, the Red de Juderías de España, the Network of Tourist Destinations, etc.
that position us in the national tourism sphere.
