The general director of Cultural Assets, Rafael Gómez, visited the Cloister of Carmen this morning in Lorca where rehabilitation works are being carried out with a budget of 1.4 million euros, of which the regional government subsidizes 750,000 euros.
The work consists of recovering the main bay, together with the basement vault and the two floors of the upper floors, with the structural reinforcement of the brick thread vault and the old wooden slabs.
Also, a ventilation chamber has been built on the ground and the vaults of the first Crust of the Cloister that were dismantled after the earthquakes of May 11, 2011 have been recovered.
Gomez stressed that "both the vault of the southern bay and the upper deck have been completed and now the northern bay is being rebuilt, which, although it endured the earthquakes, collapsed in the months following the torrential rains that took place in Lorca" .
