The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has warned of the lousy state of conservation of the centenary bridge of the Strait, located at the crossroads of the Caravaca road with the entrance to the Las Terreras site.
The infrastructure is suffering from a strong process of stone sandstoneing and an evident loss of volume in its basement, which puts its stability at risk.
"It is less difficult to put a solution now than when it has completely deteriorated," said Martin, who added that "we will never get used to this mistreatment towards elements that represent our culture and our history."
And it is that for Martin, this is a new example of the laziness that affects the local historical heritage as it happens with other works of hydraulic engineering existing in different points of the municipal term.
A global analysis that IU will expose in the coming days.
For all these reasons, Martín has demanded that the bridge be restored as well as that a recreation area existing for years in that environment be cleaned and adapted, as claimed by the residents of the area.
Historical demands
Martín took advantage of his public appearance to remember other important needs of this place, one of the most affected by depopulation and in which only 150 neighbors already live.
The most important, according to the mayor, is to end the discharge of sewage into the public channel of the Rambla del Madroño.
This is a serious environmental and health problem that could be solved either by installing a treatment plant or by building a collector to the WWTP of the Turrilla River, in La Paca, located about five kilometers away.
In the middle of the municipal election campaign, the previous government team, of the PP, assured that the negotiations were "very advanced" but "we have no news that the solution will be immediate," said Gloria Martín.
Other neighborhood requests have to do with the lack of street lighting, with the improvement of the garbage service, the repair of the streets or the cleanliness of the waterfront.
The neighbors also demand that a telephone be installed in the doctor's office.
"It is very sad that in the 21st century the physician cannot receive an urgent notice in his office and has to go out to the street to seek coverage to attend a patient through his mobile."
For the councilwoman of IU-Verdes all are "sensible claims that the PSOE, now in the municipal government, has consistently supported when he was in the opposition."
Therefore, "we ask for answers now that you have the possibility of giving them," Martin concluded.
