Rafael Méndez de Lorca hospital has a library with more than 600 donated books.
This new space, the result of a project led by Comarcal TV and the Management of Health Area III, has been possible thanks to the generosity of a large number of donors on an individual basis as well as schools and municipalities that have wanted to collaborate with this initiative .
The Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas, inaugurated today the Solidarity Library of the Rafael Méndez hospital, in the space assigned for it in the premises of this hospital of Lorca.
Villegas thanked all those who have taken books "their altruism and solidarity" after the campaign of dissemination and collection of material, which "has far exceeded the initial forecasts, with multiple donations, collections of interest and some copies of great relevance."
The hospital has enabled an easily accessible space in the center for all users, and will soon be expanded with a garden area for reading and relaxing outdoors.
Villegas also highlighted the benefits that reading can have for health, highlighting among them "the brake of cognitive deterioration, delaying diseases such as Alzheimer's or senile dementia, stress reduction, improvement of social skills and how to cope the problems of the patient's life, or the improvement of sleep, this vital factor for the recovery of the state of health and well-being ".
This new space will serve the more than 180 people who enter this hospital on average, facilitating a reading corner and a book loan service for users and working personnel of this center.
