The dissemination of the Jewish legacy of Lorca acquires special prominence this year, with its inclusion in the Red de Juderías de España.
Monumental and cultural heritage, our beaches, inland tourism and gastronomy consume a very complete offer of special interest.
January 21st.
The Councilor for Tourism and Deputy Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Morales, has announced this morning the main developments that the City Council will make in terms of tourism dissemination in the 40th edition of the Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which will take place from January 22 to 26.
FITUR is consolidated as the first major business forum of the world tourism industry, and this year, which will be its biggest edition, it is estimated that it will exceed 142,000 professionals and 110,000 weekend attendees who participated in the 2019 edition.
The mayor of Tourism, Francisco Morales, has informed that "Lorca will participate under the regional umbrella in the stand that the Community will have with the name" REGION OF MURCIA COSTA CÁLIDA ". Also, in this edition, and after the incorporation of Lorca last year in the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain, 'Caminos de Sefarad', we will also be present at the stand with which the Network participates in such an important event ".
Morales has anticipated that in this edition the mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, will present, together with the Vice Mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Francisco Morales, on Wednesday, January 22 at 11:30 'Lorca en Sefarad', main bet City Hall this year after joining the Juderías Network, together with the extensive program of cultural, musical, gastronomic and academic activities related to culture that will be developed throughout the year.
"The main objective of the presentation is the dissemination of the important heritage that the city of Lorca has in relation to Jewish culture. We talk about heritage remains that are examples of architecture and culture, and that serve to illustrate the history of this millenary city in the one that three cultures coexisted, Muslim, Christian and Jewish, "said Morales.
The discovery of the Jewish quarter and the Synagogue of Lorca during the archaeological works carried out in 2003 as a result of the construction of the Parador de Turismo, its musealization in 2012 and its importance within the set of Jewish heritage remains of Spain, has resulted to the incorporation of Lorca in the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain 'Caminos de Sefarad'.
"This 15th century religious building is very important, since it is the only medieval synagogue in Spain that preserves the remains of the closet ('hejal') where 'La Torá' was guarded and the base of the state where the 'hazan' was climbed or the rabbi to read the aforementioned sacred book. The relevance of our synagogue is such that it presents the uniqueness of being the only one in Spain not desecrated by another religion, "said the Councilor for Tourism.
The Department of Tourism also reports that on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. the director of the Tourism Institute will present jointly with Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca and Jumilla "Holy Week of International Tourist Interest of the Region of Murcia."
It will be the four municipalities of the region with Holy Weeks declared of International Tourist Interest which will carry out a presentation of them in the main stage of the stand of Region of Murcia.
Morales stressed that "the relevance of the Jewish heritage of Lorca in FITUR will, of course, be shared with what is our greatest heritage and differentiating element, Holy Week, whose embroidery in silks and gold we aspire to be recognized as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.Outstanding prominence will be the Easter 2020 Promotional Poster 'Passion of Strength and Elegance', which was the winner of the VIII Easter Week Poster Contest, and which can now be seen in two of the stations of Madrid's busiest subway; in order to stimulate the purchase of Holy Week chairs, the poster will be present in the largest showcase in the world that this fair represents in the tourism sector. "
In relation to the advertising campaign in the Madrid Metro, the Councilor for Tourism has informed Lorca once again, given the previous good results, which will allow it to be present in the city of Madrid, taking advantage of the fact that the entire tourism sector is located in the capital Spanish and that we are three months away from the biggest event that Lorca hosts throughout the year, that is, the celebration of our Holy Week.
"Therefore, one more year we will be present at the Madrid Metro with an important communication campaign from January 14 to February 19, which will make locals and tourists stumble on the originality and attractiveness of the Easter Week in Lorca thanks to great and impressive images placed in the lobby of the Sol metro station and in the Prince Pío exchanger. "
FITUR makes IFEMA the nerve center for professionals and tourists with virtually the entire world offer, so the City of Lorca takes advantage of this space to make itself known in the exterior corridors in one of the areas with the highest number of visitors, such as access to Pavilion 7, where the stand of the Region of Murcia is located, and which is a busy area for the more than 250,000 visitors that FITUR organizers expect to receive this year.
But not only will graphic and audiovisual resources be used to invite the potential public to visit us, but we will move to Madrid Lorca cuisine coinciding with the recent appointment of 'Region of Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy'.
To do this, Lorca will offer professionals in the sector gastronomic demonstrations and tastings of typical dishes carried out by two Lorca restaurants, 'Casa Tere' and 'Casa Roberto', and we will also have crepe sachets to distribute among visitors, gift that It is always highly valued among those who try it.
The gastronomic demonstrations will take place during the days of Wednesday and Friday in the show-cooking area of the Murcia Region booth.
On Wednesday at 13 hours 'Casa Tere' will present a traditional stew, 'Wheat with vegetables from the orchard of Lorca and hands of Murcian flat'.
On Friday, also at 1 pm, the gastronomic demonstration and tasting will run by the restaurant 'Casa Roberto' that will delight with its dish 'Carrillera in red wine sauce from the Highlands of Lorca'.
During the weekend the stand is transformed and all its actions are aimed at the general public that visits the fair, for this Lorca will participate in the fun Yincana family of FITUR 2020 organized by Marco Topo, a track game for children who Lorca already has three tourist information points: the tourist office, the visitor center and the castle of Lorca.
Among the prizes to overcome it are direct gifts, raffles for hotel nights and tourist experiences throughout Spain.
In the case of Lorca, it will be a weekend at the Albergue de Puntas de Calnegre, located in the Lorca district of Ramonete, a guided tour of the city and the offer of 2x1 at the entrance to the Castle of Lorca.
Another of the activities that Lorca will carry out to attract the attention of the public that visits the fair will be through a theatrical performance based on the gastronomy of Jewish culture and the role of women in it, 'Sarah and the Purim banquet ', which will have two passes on Saturday, January 25 and two passes on Sunday, January 26.
The Councilor for Tourism has informed that "throughout the fair promotional material will be distributed with the image of the new Tourism Communication Campaign, 'Lorca and you, Share it' that was presented to Lorca's last week. In addition, the magnificent team of tourism that will travel to the fair will attend, as it could not be otherwise, the consultations that are carried out on the municipality and will meet its agenda of previously arranged professional meetings ".
In this sense, taking advantage of the gigantic forum that is FITUR, an agenda of previously arranged meetings has been established, among which we highlight contacts with consultants specialized in communication, technology companies, travel agencies, meetings with organizations and signatures of agreements, panels, interviews, presentations, etc.
