The Grupo Alimentario de Lorca SL (La Comarca) remains firm in its commitment to differentiate itself in animal welfare matters and obtains the WELFARE SPAIN ANIMAL INTERPORC Certification Seal (IAWS) certification at its slaughterhouse facilities. This certificate joins the already obtained in this same area a few months ago the Welfair â„¢ certificate in Animal Welfare granted by the IRTA in collaboration with Neiker-Tecnalia.
The Region applies in its facilities strict controls and quality standards in terms of animal welfare, focusing much of its innovation and technological investment on this important aspect for the quality of the final product and increasingly demanded by the consumer.
Thanks to these efforts, there are already two certifications that have been obtained in this area, within the framework of the most demanding livestock and meat sector in the world, such as Spanish.
Spain is a pioneer in the establishment and compliance with European regulations on animal welfare.
The IAWS seal of Interporc ensures compliance with the five principles of animal welfare established by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) in both farm and slaughterhouse and industry.
These principles are: animals free from hunger, thirst and malnutrition;
free from fears and anguishes;
free from physical or thermal discomfort;
free of pain, injury or illness;
and free to express their own behavior patterns.
The Region continues to implement improvements and progress in its commitment to quality, animal welfare and innovation to adapt to the demands of consumers.
