The objective is to improve the quality of life of the attendees thanks to the stimulation of cognitive abilities through exercises, taught by qualified professionals, which favor neuroplasticity.
The Councilor of the Mayor of the City of Lorca, María Dolores Chumillas, has reported the development of free cognitive stimulation workshops that improve the quality of life of the elderly.
Chumillas has explained that "they are aimed at stimulating and maintaining cognitive abilities, slowing the progression of deterioration as well as improving functional performance through increasing the level of personal autonomy in daily life activities. In short, improving the quality of life of the assistants ".
The Edil has detailed that "cognitive stimulation exercises cognitive, emotional and relational abilities favoring neuroplasticity and, in these courses, attention, memory, language, calculation, concentration and perception will also be exercised."
Chumillas Martínez stressed that "the courses are taught by qualified professionals such as psychologists and social educators and take place from February to June and from October to December."
The Councilor of the Major has indicated that "at present, in the urban area of ​​the city these workshops are being developed in the Francisco Méndez Civic Center, on Wednesdays from 9 to 11 and from 11 to 13 hours; in Alfonso X, on Wednesdays from 10 to 12 hours; in La Viña, on Tuesdays from 4 pm to 6 pm and in San José, on Wednesdays from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. "
"And, also, in the Deputations of Tercia, on Mondays from 18:45 to 20:45 hours; Campillo, on Tuesdays from 4 to 6 pm; Tiata, on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 pm; and at the Marchena Social Center , on Thursdays from 5:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and districts such as Morata, on Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Zarcilla de Ramos, on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. "
María Dolores Chumillas has encouraged "the elders of our municipality to sign up for these workshops that bring so many benefits to their assistants, for which there are still places available being only necessary to approach either the Francisco Méndez Civic Center or by addressing the presidents of pensioners clubs or professionals who teach them at the indicated times ".
