The popular pose the need to reorder this enclave, improving their gardens and replacing the current monolith, cold, old and outdated, with a new sculpture that really symbolizes the Concord between all Spaniards and national reconciliation
The Councilor for Culture in the City of Lorca for the Popular Party, Francisco Javier Martínez, has proposed the integral remodeling of the popular Plaza de la concordia, one of the most popular places in the urban center, nestled at the confluence of the streets Sliding, Alfonso X and Nogalte.
It is an enclave that presents a manifestly improvable aspect, both in what has to do with the gardens with which it has as with the monolith that pays homage to the concord among Spaniards, which has given way to the most prosperous period of our country , enjoyed with freedom, reconciliation between brothers and full democracy.
This figure presents an advancing degree of deterioration, the result of the passage of time and the action of external agents, who have made a dent in what should be a monument
We propose an intervention that improves the general appearance of the square, and which focuses mainly on the replacement of the current monolith.
We consider it common sense to define a new image to preside over the square, which represents all Spaniards, regardless of their political ideology, making this enclave an authentic meeting point, emblem of reconciliation and peace for Lorca.
We propose, in addition, that once this square has been remodeled, in its aesthetic, functional and equipped with an image with the indicated characteristics, it will annually host the institutional act that the City Council usually develops on the occasion of Constitution Day, contributing to provide of life and activities of all kinds to our historic center, one of the challenges that we have to continue promoting by the Municipal Consistory.
It is clear that the current aspect should not continue the same, and we propose a positive project, from the realistic perspective that the cold monolith no longer represents anything for Lorca, and almost all of our neighbors do not even know what it represents.
In fact, even the pieces of white marble that make it up have moved from the place where they should have been at first, contributing to increase its overall bad appearance.
To choose a new image that truly unites all Lorca, we propose that the City Council convene an ideas competition, open to the participation of citizens, that allows us to choose a new sculpture with the truly felt represented, and that combines feelings of unity, peace and freedom.
We make this proposal with a positive attitude, to try to add and with the intention of improving one of our great treasures of the city, which is part of our historic center.
