The Councilor for Culture, María Ángeles Mazuecos, explained that "these works, valued at 40,000, will consist, above all, in correcting cornices, removing moisture from the wall, as well as removing all non-original mortars and reintegrating all lost volumes ".

The vice-spokesman of the Government team and secretary of the Local Government Board, Isidro Abellán, has realized, this morning, the agreements reached at the meeting that this body has held and in which a total of 47 issues have been addressed.

The secretary of the Local Government Board has detailed that these matters, among others, have referred to matters such as Intervention, Contracting services, supplies and equipment, Personnel and Patrimony.

Isidro Abellán has indicated that among these matters, the minor contract for the rehabilitation works on the cover of the Palacio de Guevara stands out.

For its part, the Councilor for Cultural of the City of Lorca, María Ángeles Mazuecos, said that in December 2019 the aforementioned project was sent to the General Directorate of Cultural Property.

In January of this year we sent the file to the City Council Contracting Service to begin the corresponding procedures for the execution of said works, which are valued at 38,633.88 euros, which Lorquimur, SL will be in charge of, and the management and coordination architect Francisco José Fernández Guirao is in charge of it, with an execution period of 4 months.

These works, according to Mazuecos, will consist of "correcting the cornices, eliminating the dampness of the wall, removing all non-original mortars and reintegrating all lost volumes. Since, in the first part of the intervention, surface paint and other treatments, consolidation and elimination of salts ".

The mayor of Culture has affirmed that "we must take into account that, of the entire cover, the area most affected by the structural changes of sandstone, alveolization, loss of material and inadequate mortars is the lower body of the facade, specifically the sides of the main door and the columns ".

The mayor of Culture recalled that as in all interventions of this type "conservation should be prioritized over restoration, always ensuring that direct intervention is as intrusive as possible as well as minimal.

In addition, the mayor has referred to other interventions that are underway such as the realization of some toilets on the ground floor, the installation of new shutters on the west side of the palace that is next to the Craft Center, the waterproofing of the lateral floor that gives the Plaza de la Bordadora, all these actions with integral financing of the City of Lorca, to which we must add the finalization project of the musealization under the Master Plan of the European Investment Bank (EIB) that counts with a budget of 400,000 euros. "

Finally, Mazuecos has referred to the process of processing the rehabilitation works of the façade, "an issue with which we got just to reach the City Hall, so that this facade could be rehabilitated and not covered with this scaffolding that does not leave show its splendor not only to all those who visit us, but also to Lorca and Lorca who have a special affection for this property that still has a lot to show and for what we will work tirelessly.
