It is a set of initiatives, both in Spanish and English, which revolves around Irish culture, designed for all Lorca, visitors and tourists, and will feature entertainment and bars in the street.
The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Tourism of the City of Lorca, Francisco Morales and the Councilor of Festejos, José Ángel Ponce, made this morning, together with representatives of the Cultural Association San Patricio, Hostelor and the Commercial Association Lorca Centro Histórico el program of activities planned for the feast of St. Patrick, which is commemorated on March 17.
The Councilor for Tourism recalled that San Patricio is approaching and Lorca is preparing to celebrate it with the Irish community in Spain, as well as with those who want to get to know more about the important historical heritage in relation to the feast of San Patricio in Lorca.
"Remember that Lorca has, like New York and Dublin, one of the 3 great temples in the world dedicated to the Patron of Ireland, the former Collegiate Church of St. Patrick, which rose to commemorate the victory in the battle of the Alporchones of 17 March 1452. Therefore, San Patricio is Patron of the Region of Murcia and Patron of the Local Police of Lorca, and every March 17 his day is celebrated in Lorca with a multitude of activities and a spring and festive atmosphere that does not you can get lost, "Morales said.
"This year the City of Lorca has wanted to make a qualitative leap to enhance this holiday, and for this, the Department of Tourism and Celebration, together with the Cultural Association San Patricio we have developed an interesting and varied program of activities, in Spanish and in English, for all kinds of public that will make this weekend and Tuesday 17, St. Patrick's Day, an enriching experience to share in the City of the Sun, "said Francisco Morales.
Since 2014 in Lorca, St. Patrick's Day has been celebrated with a special guided tour to commemorate this event.
But in 2020 for the first time there will be a joint event between associations and the City of Lorca.
The mayor of Festejos, José Ángel Ponce, has reported on the activities scheduled for Friday, March 13, which "will begin at 7 pm with a parade consisting of a band of pipers that will depart from the Plaza de Calderón, making a tour of the downtown area crossing the bars that the bars will take to the street, until they reach the Plaza de España, where at 20:30 hours the church of San Patricio will light up green. "
"At 9 pm we can enjoy 'ABBA LIVE TV EL MUSICAL' at the Teatro Guerra de Lorca" (http://teatroguerralorca.org/programacion/abba-live-tv/).
This is a dramatized concert tribute to the Swedish quartet Abba and not a mere tribute.
Our intention is for the public to attend an unforgettable show with a visually stunning and dramatically fun staging, where they enjoy the best voices, impressive choreographies, with comic moments that will liven up a show full of fun and, above all, good music live".
On Saturday, March 14, activities begin at 12:30 pm with two special guided visits to the old Collegiate Church of San Patricio from the Tourist Office of the Plaza de España, with an approximate duration of 75 minutes and a price of € 4 for adults and children over 13 years old, but with the Lorca friendly card will have price reduction, costing € 1 per person.
In any case, these visits require prior reservation on the Lorca Taller del Tiempo website or in person at the tourist information points (Tourist Office, Visitor Center and Castle).
The Plaza de España will be the setting for other events such as children's activities (which will have monitors) from 12 to 14 hours, and from 13 hours we can enjoy a snack with pints tasting of the iconic Guinness Irish beer in charge of the San Patricio Cultural Association.
In the afternoon, at 5 pm a mass in English will take place in the former Collegiate Church of St. Patrick;
at 20 hours a whiskey tasting contest;
and at 20:30 a concert of 'The U2 Band', tribute to the mythical Irish band.
"This is a set of activities that revolve around Irish culture, designed for all Lorca and visitors and tourists, which we encourage everyone to enjoy and share," says the mayor of Celebrations.
Morales has announced that "from Friday 13 to Tuesday 17 we will have, for the first time, the green lighting of the main religious temple of the city, the former Collegiate Church of San Patricio, as well as animation and bars in Sliding Street and Plaza from Spain thanks to the collaboration of the Association of Hoteliers of Lorca, Hostelor. In addition, we can enjoy various Irish and Spanish-inspired menus in various establishments in the city center. "
On Tuesday, March 17, St. Patrick's Day, as is traditional, in the Plaza de España at 11:30 a Mass of Honor will be offered to St. Patrick and the Local Police of Lorca in the church that bears his name .
Then, at around 12:30 pm, the raising of the Irish flag to the sound of the Irish anthem will take place from the balconies of the Chapter Rooms of the former Collegiate Church of St. Patrick.
Meanwhile, from 10 in the morning, the Tourist Office will receive visitors who want to participate in the two guided tours, one in Spanish and one in English, around the Plaza de España and interior of San Patricio, at the price € 1 per person (over 13 years old), to publicize the history of our most important monumental temple in the old town and its legacy.
