This property, located in the heart of the city, aims to provide artisans with a meeting place for demonstrations, exhibitions, courses and workshops, as well as showcase artisan products.
The Minister of Enterprise, Industry and Portavocía, Ana Martínez Vidal, and the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Handicrafts of Lorca, Francisco Morales, signed on Monday the collaboration agreement signed between the Autonomous Community and the City of Lorca for the implementation of the Craftsman's House.
Martínez Vidal stressed that "this agreement is another example of the revaluation of the figure of the craftsman and our firm commitment to artisans, being proof of this are the more than 800,000 euros that we allocate in this year's budgets for Crafts."
Morales, on the other hand, stressed that "the municipality of Lorca thus becomes a benchmark of Crafts, helping to spread and teach the ancient crafts and maintaining the cultural heritage of our municipality, the Guadalentín region, and all the Region of Murcia ".
Today, Lorca has 143 artisans registered in the Official Register of the Region of Murcia, of which 16 are autonomous artisans and 21 artisan companies, with a total of 106 workers dedicated to crafts.
Among the most representative crafts trades, we highlight the potter-potters, jarapas weavers, bakers and pastry chefs, chacineros-charcuteros, leather goods, artistic metalworkers, lacemakers, embroiderers, plasterers, butchers, locksmiths and painters-painters.
Both leaders recalled during the signing of the agreement, that the Regional Center of Crafts of Lorca already marked a milestone in 1988 to become the first center of these characteristics built throughout Spain.
The center was conceived as an instrument for the dissemination and promotion of the Handicrafts of the Region of Murcia, through permanent and temporary exhibitions, information center for the public and training for artisans.
Martínez Vidal explained that "from the regional government we will continue to support the artisanal sector as a sign of cultural identity of the Region, due to the importance of crafts as part of cultural heritage and as an engine of the economy."
The Councilor for Crafts highlighted the importance of the House of Craftsman of Lorca, which "will join the Regional Center of Crafts located in the same municipality, generating an unbeatable artisan offer that we want to make known to Lorca, Murcia and visitors and tourists from outside our region. Among its functions is not the mere exhibition of artisan products, but we intend with it to preserve the artisan traditions by perpetuating and teaching them so that manual crafts are not lost. "
