During these days of alarm due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19, the diocesan Church, through Caritas, continues to work close to those most in need.
In the pastoral area of Lorca, as explained by his vicar, Francisco Fructuoso, they keep the office open in order to attend to people without resources and "help them solve urgent procedures or some urgent need."
For those who are homeless, both the Caritas of the Vicarage of Lorca and its parish Caritas continue to function during this pandemic with the aim of "being close to the poor and in an attitude of service to those most in need."
An example of this is the house that they offer to homeless immigrants who are currently at their maximum capacity, where eleven people live, are cared for and helped.
"The municipal hostel in Lorca is also open and practically complete," explains the vicar.
In addition, they continue working on other projects such as the Kilicala (kilo, liter, box and can), with the distribution of food to families without resources;
and the Mambré Commissary, which is still open, "because requests for help have multiplied since the state of alarm was decreed."
But the agents of Cáritas Lorca are not only working in their city, but also in Puerto de Mazarrón, where a shelter has been opened to attend to all passers-by in the area.
About 90 people are staying there with the collaboration of fifteen volunteers who have traveled from Lorca and who, until now, have collaborated in the Proinfancia project, providing school support and care for school-age children, which was suspended with the closing of the classrooms .
