The Spokesman of the Municipal Group of IU-V in the City of Lorca, Pedro Sosa, has proposed to the Mayor, Diego José Mateos, that part of the facilities of the municipal soccer field - the "Artés Carrasco" stadium - be enabled to provide a service to the truckers who daily cross our municipality in this time of pandemic and state of alarm in which the solidarity of all is so necessary.
Sosa maintains that carriers play a vital role in this crisis.
Without them, the supply of food, medicine and basic necessities would not be possible.
And that essential function, says the mayor of IU-V, can only be carried out if transport workers also have their basic needs for rest, hygiene and food.
The councilor of IU-V affirms that this initiative is a replica of others that are already being launched in other municipalities in Spain, since despite the literal tenor of the provisions approved by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, on "conditions necessary to facilitate the transport of goods throughout the national territory", the truth is that there is a more or less general complaint from carriers about the shortages that exist to cover their basic needs in this exceptional time we are experiencing.
Sosa maintains that the regulations issued by the Ministry directed by Ábalos expressly prevent that:
"Fuel supply establishments that provide cleaning services must facilitate their use by professional drivers. Loading and unloading centers that have this type of facility must facilitate, as far as possible, their use by professional drivers who carry out operations on them.
Likewise, in order to enable adequate breaks in compliance with the regulations on driving and rest times, which are essential in order to carry out transport operations, those establishments that have a kitchen, restaurant services, or prepared food dispensers must provide the professional carrier with a catering service ".
But despite this, the reality that transport professionals denounce is that an important part of those service areas, gas stations and restaurants throughout Spain, which make up the list provided by the government to transporters, are closed.
The proposal of the mayor of IU-V, which is not closed, would include enabling toilets, showers and rest areas (with water machines, coffee and other food products) using part of the soccer field facilities.
A place that, as is known, is very well connected with the Mediterranean motorway.
For the maintenance of the area and the proposed facilities and services, while this exceptional situation lasts, Sosa has proposed that it be negotiated with representatives of the workers of the municipal public companies.
