The month of April says goodbye in Lorca with 369 more unemployed as a direct consequence of the coronavirus health crisis (05/05/2020)

The mayor of Local Development and spokesperson for the Government team, Isabel Casalduero, recalls that "from the Consistory we are already working on those measures that allow our businessmen and the self-employed to recover their activity as soon as possible after being affected by the closure of their shops " The councilor for Employment and Local Development of the City of Lorca, Isabel Casalduero, this morning, assessed unemployment data in the municipality of Lorca for the month of April and which have been published by the Regional Employment and Training Service (SEF) . The Councilor for Employment has detailed that "the month of April closed in our municipality with a total of 5,271 unemployed, 369 more than the previous month, which ended with 4,902 people signed up in the office that the Regional Service of Employment and Training (SEF ) has in Lorca ". Isabel Casalduero explained that "for the second consecutive month there is an increase in unemployment in our municipality, within the general trend of the entire country as a direct consequence of the health crisis in which we find ourselves due to the coronavirus and due to the closure of companies in almost all sectors due to the state of alarm and also, without forgetting, as we did last month, which has coincided with a time of special rebound for employment in the service sector for Easter, which this year we have not been able to enjoy". Casalduero has detailed that "unemployment has risen in all sectors, being the most pressing in the growth of the Services sector in which 242 people have lost their jobs in the last month, registering a total unemployment in this sector of 3,577 people; followed by Agriculture, where it has increased by 60 unemployed, to 580 unemployed; Industry, in which 36 people joined the unemployment lists in April, totaling 395; followed by the Construction sector, where 29 people did so, with a result of 374 unemployed, and finally, there have been two more unemployed in the group with no previous activity that registered 345 unemployed during the past month.

" By age, the mayor of Local Development has reported that "this increase in unemployment has been noticeable in workers of all ages, but has been more important, as it did in March, in the group of 25 to 44 years, in which a total of 216 people lost their job in April, followed by those over 45, where 121 have done so, and finally those under 25, in which there has been an increase in 32 unemployed. The councilor has acknowledged that "these are data that we had, especially due to the closure of many shops and establishments in the service sector, as well as construction companies that had to interrupt their activity last month due to the state of alarm, and industries that they have seen reduced demand for their products, having to do without, therefore, part of the workforce.

" "Since mid-March, only those shops or establishments of basic necessities have remained open, and they have had to close, among others, restaurants, cafes, bars, academies, fashion stores, jewelers, and shoe stores due to the measures applied to avoid the spread of the coronavirus, aware from the different administrations that right now the most important thing is the health of all citizens.

Now we are entering the de-escalation, many of these businesses will reopen and with this, we hope to see an improvement in the unemployment data ", has insisted Casalduero, who also recalled that" from the Consistory we work for the adoption of measures that allow our employers and self-employed to recover their activity as soon as possible,as well as helping Lorca and Lorca to minimize the economic consequences of the health crisis as much as possible ". Finally, the mayor has announced that "in order to fight unemployment, we have proposed in the Town Hall plenary session a Special Plan for Local Public Employment for the coming months to alleviate the serious unemployment situation, especially for the most affected sectors, such as commerce, hospitality and industry, and we will work in collaboration with the different administrations, because this problem of unemployment caused by the health crisis concerns us all and worries us, and the solution will depend on everyone with fiscal measures and the promotion of contracting, among others.
