The councilor of this training, Gloria Martín, has denounced that of the 9.2 million euros that the Government of Spain has allocated to the Region of Murcia to face extraordinary situations in social care derived from COVID-19, the Government of López Miras will only allocate 6.1 to the municipalities.
Lorca will correspond to € 354,918.00The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has announced the granting to the City Council of Lorca of a direct subsidy of € 354,918.00 for the development of basic benefits of primary care social services that will allow dealing with extraordinary situations arising from the COVID -19.Martín recalled that on the proposal of the Second Vice President and Minister for Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda, Pablo Iglesias (Unidas Podemos), on March 24 the Council of Ministers approved the Agreement that formalized the criteria for the distribution of the agreed credits by the Territorial Council of Social Services and the System for Autonomy and Care for Dependency.According to this territorial distribution, the Region of Murcia corresponds to € 9,284,806.
However, the mayor of IU-Verdes has regretted that the regional government is going to allocate only € 6,121,349.00 for projects to be developed by the Social Services of Primary Attention of the City councils and Commonwealths of the Region of Murcia.
In other words, the Autonomous Community will keep almost 35% of that amount (3,163,457 euros), which will not be transferred to the consistories.Martín criticized this decision because, in practice, it is the City Councils that support the bulk of the social assistance provided to citizens.
"We understand that this is a new example of how the regional government steals resources from municipalities while forcing us to provide services that are within its competence," he denounced. These credits will be used to finance projects and the necessary labor contracts to reinforce home-based proximity services for the elderly, disabled or dependent.
Also to increase and reinforce the operation of home telecare devices, care for the homeless, or family respite, as well as to expand the allocation of items intended to guarantee sufficient income to families, to ensure coverage of their basic needs.
.
The grant may also be used to hire new personnel assigned to Social Services, either to make substitutions or to cover the overload of the workforce.
Programs and services that, in the case of Lorca, are mainly supported by the City Council. For this reason, from IU-Verdes Lorca they have once again demanded that the Region of Murcia equip itself with an instrument of participation in the income that contributes, with clear and non-discretionary criteria, to a reasonable, stable, sufficient and solidary financing "so that the municipalities can continue to provide the necessary services to citizens.
""We need a Local Financing Law as is the practice of the autonomous communities of this country," said Martín.
A tool that allows compliance with article 142 of the Constitution, which establishes that local farms must have sufficient means to carry out their functions and will be nourished by their own taxes and the participation of those of the State and the Autonomous Communities.
