In the extraordinary plenary session that was held on May 5, different agreements were approved to support the self-employed and SMEs in our municipality, seriously affected by the effects of the state of alert decreed by the health crisis of COVID-19. Today we have learned, through the media, that the City Council has decided to include the water and garbage receipts for the 4 months in the “up to € 500” bonus.
Until now we understood that they were different and complementary aids. A few days ago we described the measures approved in plenary as insufficient and ambiguous, now we believe that they will end up being very deficient for the self-employed and SMEs in our municipality, taking into account the gravity of the situation we are going through. The goal was and continues to be to save our businesses, our businesses and the thousands of jobs that depend on them.
Seeing that our municipal administration has not understood the dimension of the problem that affects our commercial fabric and that it will not be up to the exceptional circumstances that we suffer, we only have the indefinite temporary closure until the commercial normality of our municipality. What we fear is that for many it means the final closure and dismissal of all their employees. Our group is going to consider giving up these "alms", they seem humiliating to our self-employed and, since they do not solve anything, we will not accept them.
We resign ourselves not to start our activity and leave our shops closed. We regret the erroneous decision of our City Council, it means turning our backs at the worst time and therefore dealing a death wound to our commercial fabric. It is not possible for us to maintain a large burden of fees and taxes for months while our workload is at a minimum.
"WE CAN NOT PAY" This week started with enthusiasm, we began to see a large number of open businesses, bars, terraces, etc.Today we are already seeing that the low workload that we are going to have for months and without the help of our City Council will not allow us to survive economically.
