| The PP rejects the obscurantism that the current local government has tried to impose on this issue, and denounces that these decisions have been made with their backs to the affected groups and without consulting the municipal political groups | The spokesman for the Popular Party in the municipality of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has indicated that we have waited until the last moment because we were confident that the current government team would be good enough to inform all Lorca residents of the content of the budget modification that they will present to the plenary session.
next Monday.
This obscurantism and lack of transparency have raised our concern from the first moment, and once we analyzed the content of the PSOE proposal, we have found several very negative surprises that will have their repercussion for the whole of Lorca society.
They leave us no other way than to have to be the ones to inform the citizens of this matter. In the first place, we do not understand the reason why they have hidden that they have already decided to suppress the Virgen de las Huertas Fair, the September Fair and Festivities, Sepor and Fericab, as well as practically all cultural and festive events until end of the year.In the case of the Fair, the economic funds that are destined annually to enable its development are withdrawn, specifically for the assembly of all the infrastructure it requires.
They take away 113,700 euros, which means that they have already decided to cancel this year's Fair and Festivities.
Nobody understands, therefore, that in recent days we have been hearing statements from the PSOE mayor in which he insists on concealing that they have already decided to take over the Fair.
Regardless of entering to assess whether that decision is correct or not, that we will have time for it, what we demand is that the people of Lorca are made clear, because the citizens do not deserve a government that hides reality from them.
Nor do we understand that this suppression has been determined unilaterally, without consulting the Municipal Corporation or affected groups and, again, behind the back of the citizens.
We are going to insist that leisure alternatives be explored that can be carried out while respecting the health and safety conditions that are in force at all times. We must also indicate that the budget modification of the PSOE mayor entails the cancellation of the livestock event par excellence of the entire Spanish Levante, and the one that generates the greatest economic and social benefits for our municipality.
We are talking about Sepor, an event that literally "plucks", taking 37,500 euros from its budget, which materially prevents its celebration. This measure is nonsense, it is taken unilaterally and behind the back of the Sepor Governing Council.
Its collateral damages will suppose an economic "cataclysm", since it will multiply the tremendous fall in income that hoteliers and merchants are suffering.
They will greatly worsen a hypothetical economic and labor revival in our municipality, destroying jobs and possibilities of recovery.
How is it possible that they have fallen into the serious irresponsibility of suppressing in May a livestock event as important to Lorca as Sepor, that Is it celebrated in the month of November, in six months? Already last year they began to show their intention to cut this livestock fair, taking away 18,000 euros, and now they are rushing to leave it without funds for its celebration. This budgetary modification also includes the reallocation of the money that the city council has saved by the cancellation of the Easter processions, a measure that we already proposed from the Popular Party in the month of March.
We are pleased that time is proving us right, and reveals a local government that is acting "in tow" again at the pace that we are setting for it.
What is totally incomprehensible is that they are making us all lose so much time, when from the first moment they could have used the savings they are accumulating by the suppression of the festive and cultural events of the municipality in helping the people of Lorca. These 197,000 euros had to be made available to the families who are having the worst time because of the COVID-19 crisis.
The Chamber of Commerce, Ceclor, and even the Self-Employed Platform are rejecting the humiliating system of "alms and tips" proposed by the PSOE mayor. The reality is that they have everything stopped and blocked.
Instead of playing clueless about the fate of economic items that are not being spent, they should be offering guarantees, transparency and security to workers, freelancers, entrepreneurs and the productive fabric of Lorca as a whole.Given what has been seen, it is normal that neither the mayor of the PSOE nor any of his councilors has dared to publicly report this new nonsense, which adds to the endless chain of errors of an exhausted, consumed and failed government.
