The Lorca City Council grants a license to Iberdrola for the removal of cable crossings in various streets of the old town (05/06/2020)

In this first phase, cables will be removed from a total of 20 road crossings, "the ones most seen by pedestrians and visitors, and which undoubtedly spoil the vision of our monuments and buildings." The councilors of Urbanism and Historic Center of the City of Lorca, José Luis Ruiz Guillén and María Ángeles Mazuecos, have announced, this morning, the actions that are going to be carried out in various streets of the urban area of ??Lorca with the aim of withdrawing wiring crossings. The Councilor for Urban Planning recalled that "before arriving at the Government team, we have always demanded from our Municipal Group that these works be undertaken on a wiring that makes our historic premises so ugly." José Luis Ruiz Guillén has highlighted that "thanks to the contacts and the permanent planning that, from the City Council, specifically from the Urban Planning Area, we are having with the Iberdrola electricity company, now there is going to be a first phase of actions to go eliminating the wiring of the old town ". Ruiz Guillén explained that "this Plan for the removal of 20 road crossings, the ones that are most seen by pedestrians and visitors, and which undoubtedly spoils the vision of our monuments and buildings, is being analyzed by Iberdrola.

AND From the Urban Planning Area, a license has already been granted for the elimination of aerial cable crossings in Plaza de la Concordia; in Corredera streets, 53 and Álamo, 17; and in Corredera street between Juan II and Leonés streets, a first phase, which will begin in a few days, and for which the company will invest about 9,000 euros.

" The mayor has specified that "this is the first action resulting from the agreements reached with Iberdrola that will involve the aesthetic improvement of the historic site, to which will be added a series of actions to improve the quality of service to merchants and residents of the town and avoid supply cuts like those that occurred last year, something that the affected merchants have demanded of us on numerous occasions.

" Lastly, Ruiz has reiterated that "this path taken from Urbanism to gradually solve existing problems is bearing fruit, something that will undoubtedly improve the current situation, for which we will continue to deepen our collaboration with the electricity company with the end of a higher quality and a better service for all the people of Lorca ".
