The councilor of this training, Gloria Martín, has also requested the transfer to the Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca (FOML) of one of the apartments owned by the City Council in the San Fernando neighborhood, as was done with other non-governmental organizations operating in the municipality The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has called for the implementation in Lorca of programs to reconcile work and family life to facilitate the incorporation into work of families who need alternatives to care for their sons and daughters. Martín assured that the health crisis generated by COVID-19 cannot be an excuse for the City Council not to launch this service this year.
"We speak of an undoubted public and social interest, insofar as these programs contribute to alleviating the discriminatory effects that derive from the traditional assumption by women of family obligations, and that represent one of the greatest difficulties for their access to employment under equal conditions, "said Martín. The councilor for IU-Verdes pointed out that the jobs with the lowest and most precarious salaries are usually face-to-face, they do not admit teleworking, so it is essential that the City Council promote proposals for family reconciliation so that the health crisis does not also become "labor" "and" economic "for many lorquinas.
For this reason, Martín has encouraged the municipal government team to take advantage of the return to normality to "rethink" the co-responsibility policies that are implemented in Lorca. Gloria Martín has said "to miss" that among the measures announced by the municipal government team to face the de-escalation, there are not, for the moment, those related to summer schools, something that other municipalities in the Region have already done adopting the corresponding measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In this regard, the mayor of IU-Greens recalled that this year the Ministry of Women, Equality, LGBTI, Families and Social Policy has doubled the budget for conciliation policies and Lorca has 40,414 euros, 50% more than in 2019 A help that, according to Martín, "we cannot lose", to recover some programs that "should be a priority". On the other hand, Martín has also requested the transfer to the Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca (FOML) of one of the apartments owned by the City Council in the San Fernando neighborhood, as was already done with other non-governmental organizations operating in the municipality.
Lorca lacks houses self-managed by social groups to meet the needs of women in vulnerable situations, which are not always associated with gender violence. In this sense, he has highlighted the "essential" role that the FOML has played for decades in detecting and attending to the reality that affects single-parent families in Lorca, of which almost half have a monthly budget of less than 600 euros for their subsistence. "There are cases of women with minor children who need temporary accommodation measures and who cannot be users of the foster homes because they are not victims of gender violence," said Martín.
For this reason, the mayor of IU-Verdes is committed to developing a project for the temporary reception of women that allows them to provide them with resources and supports to promote their social integration and personal autonomy.
