The Civil Guard of the Region has identified and denounced eight cyclists who practiced this sport in the Sierra de Almenara for alleged administrative infractions of Law 42/2007, on Natural Heritage and Biodiversity and Law 43/2003, on Mountains and Decree 299/2010, of the Management and Conservation Plan of the Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) of Almenara, Moreras and Cabo Cope. This action is framed in the services that the specialists of the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard have been developing in the natural environment to protect the mountains and natural spaces of the Region of Murcia. The performance took place when the SEPRONA civil guards of Lorca were providing surveillance services in the Sierra Almenara de Lorca, where the habitual practice of cycling in this protected natural area was known. During the operation, the civil guards located eight cyclists while they were riding on a path that also had prohibitive signs.
These people were proposed for sanction for traveling, without authorization, with a mountain bike on protected mountain trails of the Natura 2000 Network (SPA and LIC), assuming an alteration of the conditions of the protected natural space and breaching the prohibitions established in the plans.
