We live in a place on the peninsula where temperatures can exceed 40 degrees in the shade, and Lorca, which is the "City of the Sun", suffers significant heat waves during the summer.

If we take into account that in the urban area the air circulates with difficulty and the asphalt acts as a sponge absorbing the heat, the thermal sensation due to high temperatures can be very overwhelming and cause heat stroke in people, becoming a health problem.

Public in summer.There is a new type of asphalt that is COOLPAVEMENT or cold asphalt that has a grayish color because it has an additive incorporated that gives it a higher level of reflectance than traditional black asphalt.Among the properties of this new asphalt are those of reflecting the light, being the ground and its traffic signs more visible at night, avoiding overheating of the ground by reducing the "heat island" effect of the city by up to 10 degrees and reduce the noise level of road traffic by several decibels.

These effects have been verified in several pilot projects financed by the European Union LIFE + program with satisfactory results, obtaining a very positive degree of acceptance for pedestrians and residents.The strategic asphalt with coolpavement of certain streets of the municipality, especially in commercial areas and with high pedestrian traffic, would reactivate the economy of the place because it would favor the stay and visit of shops, making the walks on the streets of Lorca fresher and more pleasant for customers.

We consider that this proposal is easily applicable because there are companies in the Region that offer this cold asphalt service.
