The mayor of Local Promotion and Development, Isabel Casalduero, explained that "in recent days 280 tons of dirt and mud accumulated in the river have been removed, some tasks that are added to the clearing, cleaning and fumigation that had already been carried out in this area.
" The Councilor for Promotion and Local Development of the Lorca City Council, Isabel Casalduero, reported this morning of the work carried out in recent days for the cleaning and adaptation of the Guadalentín river. The mayor of Public Works explained that "within the works that for a few months we have been carrying out from the City Council on the riverbed and that, until now, have consisted of clearing, cleaning and collecting all waste and garbage accumulated, at this time the work is focusing on the removal of stagnant water and the silt and mud that has been accumulating in recent years.
" Casalduero Jódar has detailed that "these works that began last Wednesday and ended on Friday at the last minute have had an investment of 4,800 euros.
In total 280 tons of dirt and sludge have been removed, about 17 trucks". The councilor added that "to all these tasks are added those that have been carried out by the Department of Health for the fumigation of the riverbed as it passes through the city, in order to control mosquito populations." Casalduero has regretted that "we have reached the situation of neglect that we find in the riverbed due to many years of a disastrous and almost non-existent maintenance of an infrastructure that we have verified that it has served so that Lorca and Lorca could take their walks with pets and sports practices during the different phases of the de-escalation and that they would have used more if it had been kept in decent conditions, which is now our main intention ". Isabel Casalduero recalled that "the different episodes of rains have been dragged in water by this channel, as well as all the waste and garbage remains that the flow was finding in its path until everything was deposited with the consequent focus of insects that this supposes , so we are insisting a lot on the fumigation work in this area.
" Finally, he has encouraged all citizens "to continue making responsible use of these facilities, since we have seen the amount of waste that the municipal cleaning company Limusa has removed, including many of them from bottles, a activity that, we recall, is prohibited ".
