Pedro Sosa, who has suffered lacerations to his neck and belly, regrets that the attackers were not arrested despite the fact that, in the presence of local Police officers, they continued to seriously threaten him and try to break his head with stones The spokesman for the Municipal Group of the United Left-Greens in the City of Lorca (Murcia), Pedro Sosa, was subjected last night to a brutal physical and verbal attack by three young people, which has resulted in several lacerations to his neck and in the belly, although the consequences of the attack could have been irreparable. The events occurred after several neighbors alerted the councilor that three individuals had been there "all afternoon", shouting "shitty Moors" and "sons of bitches", stoning the facade of the house of a family of Moroccan origin on Abellaneda street in the San Cristóbal neighborhood, the same street where Sosa resides.
The residents decided to call him after trying for hours, without success, to get a local police patrol to come to protect the victims. The IU-Verdes councilor approached the house to check the state of this family and assess the material damage that the vandalism had caused.
At that moment, the individuals returned to the area and threw themselves at the councilor with sticks and large stones, causing injuries. Thanks to the fact that other neighbors came to his aid and he was able to get away from his attackers, Pedro Sosa telephoned the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Luis Ruiz Guillén, who sent a local Police patrol, but not without first making his position ugly in certain matters of the Plenary municipal. The capital surprise occurred when the agents did not arrest the aggressors or give them any breathalyzer or drug use tests, as the mayor of IU-Verdes requested due to the evident state of intoxication and aggressiveness in which they were.
Nor did they do so when, in the presence of the police, one of them continued to seriously threaten the councilor and continued with attempts to physically attack. After going through his local health center and already with the corresponding injury report, at 11:30 p.m.
Sosa appeared at the Local Police headquarters to try to file a complaint, but was warned that he should wait at least two hours, for which he was forced to return home to rest before returning to his job at six in the morning.
The complaint will be filed this morning. Sosa said he felt "absolutely helpless" in the face of an event that could have resulted in irreparable consequences for the terrified family that was attacked and for himself.
"They could have killed us with a blow to the head with one of those stones," he said. The IU-Verdes councilor said he felt "jaded" and "disappointed" with a municipal government (PSOE and C's) that does not stop looking the other way to the problems of Lorca in general, and of the San Cristóbal neighborhood in particular.
And he issued the warning, in a personal capacity, that either the Mayor, Diego José Mateos, takes the problems of the neighbors seriously, "or he will not eat the turkey in the mayor's chair." Sosa has also criticized the climate of "racism and xenophobia" that VOX spokesperson Carmen Menduiña is fueling and that is generating neighborhood tensions of unpredictable dimensions in some neighborhoods of the municipality.
"These are the consequences of her politics of hatred," she said. Pedro Sosa reproached Menduiña for making the neighbors of immigrant origin a target and said that what San Cristóbal needs is the presence of the local Police in the streets to stop crime, which, as in his case, is not always a matter of foreign.
