The mayor of Lorca, Diego Jos� Mateos, together with the councilors of Local Development and Pedan�as, Isabel Casalduero and Antonio Navarro, have supervised the work of creating the botanical garden in the district of Zarzadilla de Totana.
Mateos explained that "within the firm commitment that this Government team has with the recovery and enhancement of our districts, we have launched the creation of a botanical garden in Zarzadilla de Totana, located on the side of the sports center and adjacent to the pedan�a school, with varieties of plant species from the southeast of Spain, suitable to withstand the weather in the area ".
"In the area on which it is acting, of 6,900 square meters, three spaces are differentiated.
A central area of ??the plot is intended for the botanical garden, with an approximate area of ??2,500 square meters and where it will be planted ¿½n about 35 species composed of trees and shrubs, in addition to placing wooden benches for stay and rest; a second space that will be destined to stay, leisure and recreation, endowing it with shady trees, kitchens and picnic tables and, finally, a third area that is enabled for the development of sports activities, installing a 7 "soccer field.
The Mayor has detailed that "among the works that are being carried out, the cleaning of the environment with the clearing of the undergrowth stands out; the containment of the slope adjacent to the sports center by means of the realization of a breakwater with stones from the quarries in the area; the construction of a staircase that will connect the access esplanade to the sports center with the promenade area of ??the botanical garden where 8 wooden benches will be placed ".
"Two kitchens will be built for barbecues and 4 picnic tables and 5 wastebaskets will be installed in the surroundings; a laundry room; two petanque courts with another 5 wooden benches; the ï Existing trees in the area to their new location according to the needs of the garden, about 60 trees of different species and about 500 shrubs of different varieties will be planted for the realization of hedges, all this watered through a sectorized drip irrigation system ".
"The realization of this botanical garden, with an execution period of five months and a budget that amounts to 50,000 euros, is being carried out through programs to promote agricultural employment , known as Regional Employment Councils, through the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), with which 7 laborers and 2 agricultural foremen are being employed ".
