Fulgencio Gil: "Joaqun Castellar is Marca Lorca, he is Lorca pride, a cultural icon in himself, and a person of extraordinary humanity.
He has a sense of aesthetics that has marked his own stamp".
Of his fruitful work for Holy Week, it is the Emperor Nero's float that constitutes his most popular contribution.
It was the first of large dimensions to process through the current parade route in 1971, in such a way that this year it will be 50 years since its premiere.
In the next plenary session, the president of the Popular Party of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, will request the support of the Municipal Corporation to name Joaqun Castellar the open-plan square existing in the old food market, a space reference located in the historic center of our city.
We are talking about an extraordinary Lorca creator, artisan and visionary artistic designer of our processions.
It is a municipal commitment that dates back to July 22, 2020, a day in which from the PP an initiative was presented in plenary session requesting that the City Council pay tribute to the artist from Lorca Joaqun Castellar Gallego, dedicating to him a street or square in our city as agreed with the family, without this request having been carried out, a commitment that has been reiterated through various official documents and to which we are now available.
¿½ of responding from the municipal institution.
Already on December 4, we proposed that, knowing that the Antigua Plaza de Abastos does not have any denomination, and it is also known and known, that the artist Joaqun Castellar was born and raised in that environment, where the building opposite bears his name, would be the appropriate space to be used in commemoration of the artist.
Specifically next Monday, January 25, coinciding with the celebration of the Ordinary Plenary Session, our artist from Lorca is 80 years old, an ideal moment to definitively sign this tribute, and which would surely constitute a emotional news for Mr.
Castellar, as well as for his family and friends, Fulgencio Gil, has affirmed that we Lorca have the duty to honor those who have managed to place our city at the level it presents, and in particular those people who, thanks to their creative capacity, determination and sacrifice have elevated it to the category ¿½a of true art our processions of Holy Week.
For the Popular Party in general, and for me in a special way as its president, it is a deep joy to inform this morning of the initiative that we propose to dedicate this square to the renowned and popular artist from Lorca Joaqun Castellar .
We are talking about a true artist who has left his indelible mark on multiple events between the 20th and 21st centuries.
He is also an icon of avant-garde and artistic modernity, an artist who has managed to combine local tradition with new creative forms with his successful style, transferring international influences from all spheres.
Fulgencio Gil has stated that this is a request that responds to an act of justice, proposing the more than deserved recognition and tribute that the city of Lorca owes Joaqun Castellar for his artistic, artisan and creative legacy .
From the Popular Party we consider that it is more than necessary for this type of recognition to be carried out with the presence of the honorees, because in this way it receives the close and sincere affection of a city that does not forget those who have made it big.
Of his more than prolific professional career, it is worth highlighting the design and creation work carried out by Castellar in events such as the design of the Murcia Region pavilion at the Madrid Field Fair.
(1975), one of his first works.
We must also highlight their scenography for groups and singers such as Mocedades, Roco Drcal, Bertn Osborne, Mike Kennedy, or Isabel Pantoja, among others, as well as the scenographic setting deployed for the National Orchestra in the tribute concert to Bartolom Prez Casas held in the Plaza de Espaà ± a.
Other examples are the curtain of the Romea Theater premiered after its reopening, the renewed design of the festive Camp with which the Moors and Christians groups had in the Murcian Plaza de San Esteban,as well as the new ornamentation of the stands of our Holy Week.
His embroidery designs have obtained multiple awards in various categories at the Los Caballos del Vino festival in Caravaca, which earned him recognition as an honorary craftsman.
We can also see their designs for tapestries at the Regional Center for Crafts.
We must also remember his drawings for book illustration, collections of photographs on canvas, pictorial samples.
Among his works for the Hermandad de Labradores, Paso Azul, highlights the ceiling of the canopy of the throne of the Virgin of Sorrows, an allegory of the Holy Spirit embroidered in silk, the litter of Cleopatra, and the floats of the Triumph of the Christianity, Meiamn, the chariots of Tiberius Csar, Ptolemy IV, the chariots and that of Julius Csar, among others.
