The mayor, Diego José Mateos, explained that "it is a unanimous decision of all the municipal groups that, as an exercise of responsibility, have chosen to allocate this money to cover issues or social needs that are emerging as a result of the crisis sanitary ".
The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, announced, this morning, the salary freeze of the 25 councilors that make up the municipal corporation to whom the salary increase planned for this year will not be applied.
This decision has been adopted by consensus and with the unanimous agreement of all municipal groups, aware of the very difficult situation we are going through, as a result of the health crisis caused by the coronavirus.
The money corresponding to this 0.9% increase that the Government of Spain has agreed to for all public sector officials and workers for this 2021, which will not be applied to the 25 councilors of the municipal corporation, will be used to cover issues and social needs, while the rest of the municipal employees will not be affected by this measure.
Mateos stressed that "it is an exercise of responsibility and ethics, agreed with each and every one of the Corporation colleagues, because it is in critical situations such as the one we are going through, when we have to be up to par and setting an example, that it is what our neighbors expect of us ".
