[The mayor of the PSOE prevents the proposals presented by the Popular Municipal Group against gambling halls from being debated in the Plenary of the City Council (25/01/2021)

Asking for them to be closed because it could be populist, but it doesn't get us anywhere.

If we really want to do something positive for society, we have to bring serious, feasible and legal backing initiatives to the Plenary of the City Council. The mayor of the PSOE has even refused to debate in plenary session the proposal of the Popular Party in which the Ministry of Health was urged to analyze and evaluate the need to adopt specific sectoral measures to guarantee effective compliance with health measures, security and restrictions inside gambling halls and betting houses throughout the national territory. From the PP, the Ministry of Health of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia has been urged in the same sense and within its specific competences, to adopt sectoral measures to guarantee effective compliance with the sanitary, security and restriction measures inside gambling halls and betting houses. The Popular Party's proposal included that the Lorca City Council implement and intensify the surveillance and control of this type of premises to guarantee that the sanitary measures in force are fulfilled in terms of compliance with capacity limitations, mandatory use of masks in the interior of said premises, closure of the restoration areas, if any, as well as that they have the mandatory permits and licenses of a municipal nature ”.   These measures, which have been presented through an amendment to the motion on this matter presented by the current local government, have not even been debated, as Mr.

Mateos refused to do so, showing a very undemocratic attitude, since his The objective was none other than to try to monopolize the Plenary of the City Council, preventing the debate of more ambitious proposals. Mr.

Mateos wants to focus the whole problem on the gaming halls, but what is his local government doing to verify that these establishments comply? Mr.

Mateos has a multitude of administrative tools through all municipal services to monitor that these businesses comply with the regulations, and that is what he should be doing continuously.

What Lorca requires are fewer words and more deeds.

Health measures have to be discussed with the health authorities, there is no use sending simplistic messages only to the media. We want more, much more, because the city council has and can do more.

That is why we demand that control be taken to the maximum, that all premises that do not comply be closed, and not only here in the Region, but throughout Spain, with the involvement of the Pedro Sánchez government, because we see that the PSOE only He is concerned about what is happening in Murcia, but has not closed these gaming halls in any of the regions in which he governs.

We want to prevent these measures from falling short and we will demand it in the next plenary session.   Mr.

Mateos, for example, told the gallery that he was going to seek consensus with the political parties on the case of gaming halls, but he has done absolutely nothing.

He has not sought at any time to agree anything with the PP.

We do not like these places or the activities that are practiced inside, although they are legal and we are particularly concerned about their proliferation.

But if we really want to do something positive for society, we have to bring serious, feasible and legal backing initiatives to the Plenary of the City Council.

Asking for them to be closed because it could be a populist, but it doesn't get us anywhere.
