They also undertake to provide the less active social integration into community life.
immediate background
Lorca is twinned with the Saharawi Wilaya city Laayoune.
40 years ago much of the Saharan population settled in refugee camps in Tindouf.
Since then they are fed by international organizations such as the World Food Programme through the Red Crescent.
According to the United Nations Agency for Refugees (UNHCR) "the proliferation of humanitarian emergencies around the world has overshadowed the protracted crisis of Saharan refugees and impacted negatively on donor support."
Sahrawis remain through the World Food Programme (WFP), which provides the basic basket, which consists of: 3 cereals (wheat flour, barley and rice), 2 pulses (lentils and yellow split peas), vegetable oil, sugar and super grain, a compound consisting of corn and soybean.
This basket has already undergone some changes to fit the budget, such as replacing legumes by other cheaper or remove the beans from the basket.
It was supplemented with 3 kg / person / month for fresh produce (potatoes, onions, carrots, seasonal fruit).
The recommended amount is 12 kg / person / month.
However, WFP has warned of lack of funding, more than 7 million euros to complete 2015. This has meant successive reductions of the basic food basket, which has involved significant gaps in families;
basket exhausted the middle of each month.
This type of prolonged feeding time and poor (only reaches 80% of the population) has generated a number of consequences:
There are 7.5% of children and women between 15 and 50 years with severe malnutrition.
60% of women suffer from anemia.
The children present from birth.
Almost 30% of children have growth deficit which affects brain development.
This nutritional deficit is aggravated by the climatic conditions of the desert of Tindouf, where the camps are located.
It is an inhospitable Algerian desert area, which suffers great climatic variations from day to no-che.
The mildest months are the winter, although the differences between minimum and maximum temperatures are very pronounced (above 20 degrees).
In summer these differences between day and night are maintained, although in the months of July and August daytime temperatures are at 50 degrees, dropping to 30 at night.
These conditions prevent life literally during daylight hours, while maintaining impact significantly on food.
