The general director of the Institute of Tourism, Manuel Fernández-Delgado, accompanied today the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, at the opening of the new headquarters of the tourist office of the municipality.
The new office, located in the Plaza of Spain, the heart of the city, replaces that was in the wall of the Fortress of the Sun and had been transferred there by the Visitor Center La Merced, due to the earthquake 2011.
As stated by Fernández-Delgado, "the new relocation help stimulate the historical center and take the tour desk more visitors, because it was strategically chosen to take the most neuralgic point of the city, along which a greater volume tourists and visitors. "
In addition, Fernandez-Delgado welcomed the initiative of the municipality, "a performance improvement of its infrastructure demonstrating its vocation as one of the main tourist destinations in the region and their willingness to live up to an industry that is consolidating as one of the pillars of regional economic and social development. The general director of the Institute of Tourism highlighted the office of Lorca as one that caters to a larger volume of visitors to the 28 that make up the Network of Tourist Offices Region of Murcia.
The new location, he said, "will allow visitors continue to increase."
During 2015 the office was visited by 18,848 tourists face and provided 20,860 services, of which 48 percent were sued by regional visitors, 37 percent of other communities and 15 internationally.
The main complaint was 'culture', with 59 percent of the total share, followed by 'parties and events', with 39 percent.
In addition, the CEO recalled that the office has the Q of Quality since 2009 and is within the Sicted Project for quality.
