The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has completed work on forest and environmental restoration as a result of large forest fire on August 6, 2015 in the mountains of Almirez, in the municipality of Lorca (Murcia), which affected a total area of ​​228 hectares, of which 225 correspond to forest area.
With these actions, which have received an investment of the Ministry of Agriculture of 247,500 euros, it has helped to reduce erosion risks that occur after a forest fire, and the appearance of pests and diseases.
They will also allow restoration of a mixed wooded forest mass;
and reconcile the socio-economic interests with environmental conservation.
In this way, the works have included the urgent removal of burned wood for natural regeneration and reduce the risk of occurrence of pests that could affect the neighboring forests.
It has also built 16 wooden barricades and gullies gully, with the aim of reducing the effects of stormwater runoff and mitigate linear rill erosion.
In addition, it has adequate 1,327 linear meters of fagots (cords of forest residues) to slow down and erosive power of surface runoff and consequently of sheet erosion and soil loss in areas devoid of vegetation due to the fire.
All these works, along with other similar restoration work Major Wildfires organized by the Ministry, are part of the set of actions of cooperation with the autonomous communities, both in the extinction of forest fires and the hydrological-forest restoration, the fight against erosion and desertification.
