Social Work Unit serves nearly 6,500 inhabitants and users derives the civic center neighborhood comprising a population of over 18,000 people temporarily suppressed.
Worship Peñas, councilor of the municipal group of IU-Greens denounced the suppression of a Social Work Unit for time not defined that covers a quarter and four heavily populated districts (Virgen de las Huertas, Tiata, Cazalla, Marchena and Pulgara) taking these citizens to move to the civic center of San Cristobal district to be served.
Peñas details the areas of the municipality who have been deprived of primary social care affect nearly 6,500 people who have to travel to the other end of the city to be served by the social worker in a downtown, located in San Cristobal, which it is so overcrowded that serves a population of over 18,000 people and the characteristics of the users contemplating a significant percentage of them at risk and / or social exclusion.
The mayor recalled that social services of primary care are the most basic level of service to citizens, especially the most disadvantaged, being the link needed to handle cases more specific problems in specialized social services in areas such as child protection, disability, consumption of toxic substances, etc.
In addition, it is the responsibility of public authorities, especially local government, providing quality social services promoting information and advice to the population, as well as measures to eradicate social exclusion favoring inclusion processes.
Therefore, from IU-Greens regret that deletion, albeit temporarily, by a UTS (Social Work Unit) covering a large part of the population, especially when derived to a saturated center, and said that although unknown the cause should not be treated not cover staff holidays, and there is a job for this purpose and require the mayor and the own Department of social services that will restore the situation as soon as possible, because the social environment has already suffered too cuts in recent years despite its important role in times of crisis.
