In addition to joining the state campaign "No more cuts of Light", endorsed by dozens of associations of all kinds, the councilor of IU-V in the City of Lorca, Adoración Peñas, seeks to locate in our municipality the demands contained In that campaign and extend them further to the basic water supply.
Peñas says that despite the impossibility of having accurate data of Lorca families with scarce economic resources that have been subject to a cut of basic supplies such as electricity or water, also derived from the opacity with which these companies operate, the true Is that in a municipality like ours, which occupies the shameful third place of the poorest in Spain with more than 50,000 inhabitants, the incidence of energy poverty must be extremely serious.
The demands of the campaign that the councilor of IU-V intends to locate in Lorca have as a first step the paralysis of light cuts to families with economic problems.
"We want to put an end to the abuses that affect an essential service, so we demand the Government to regulate an affordable rate that can be enjoyed by all domestic consumers and a real social rate for families with low income levels."
The promoters of this campaign say that "7 million people have difficulties in Spain to pay the bill of the light and more than 5 million will be without heating during this winter.Although more people die every year in Spain due to lack of supplies in their Homes that by traffic accidents, those affected by energy poverty remain invisible. "
They also argue that this situation has intensified as a result of indiscriminate increases in light rates.
In just the last six months, the receipt was increased by 25%.
Large companies systematically refuse to perform an audit to determine the actual costs of electricity production and promote a system that favors speculation.
It is essential that there is greater transparency to be able to end the abuses in the electric bill.
Adoración Peñas intends that the City of Lorca initiates a commitment from both the electricity companies and the mixed company "Aguas de Lorca", so that both are forced to address the local administration and specifically the area of social services, to Check the situation of families who do not pay their receipts.
If they suffer economic vulnerability, and after accreditation of their situation of social need by social workers, they can not cut the supply and the cost should be assumed by the companies.
In this sense requires the local government to urge the supply companies resident in Lorca to sign the appropriate protocol.
For this purpose, Peñas has addressed the mayor through an official request that expects to be attended as soon as possible due to the seriousness of the matter and the immediate arrival of winter.
