One hundred associates, belonging to 40 groups throughout the municipality, participate in a day designed for this purpose in the Castle of Lorca.
The Councilor for the Elderly in the City of Lorca, Fátima Mínguez, has reported that the Municipal Council is developing during this day the "I Meeting between Associations of Elderly Lorca, Towards active aging," in the Aljibe Castle.
Ms. Silvente explained that it is about encouraging groups to share their proposals for socio-cultural activities, management and internal organization.
The purpose of this day is to promote, empower and energize the association as a form and vehicle for active participation of the Elderly.
The objective is to have an up-to-date knowledge of the activity and content of the groups, to visualize the experiences and associative projects of the elderly groups, as well as to enhance their internal and human resources.
The Mayor's Office has stated that it is also intended to promote the formation of the Boards of Directors of pensioners associations so that they can carry out their own programs and activities that help them to develop coherent, real and practical objectives.
The event has served for the clubs to know the resource base in the municipality that can be useful and to learn about experiences of active aging in other municipalities.
The meeting brought together a hundred elderly people representing the Board of Directors of the pension associations of Virgen de las Huertas, Los Angeles, San Lázaro, Alfonso X, San José, La Tova, Zarzadilla de Totana, Tercia, La Hoya , Purias, Santa Maria, Tiata, Marchena, Las Terreras, Sutullena, La Escucha, La Pulgara, Campo López, Morata, San Cristóbal, Doña Inés, Calvario, La Viña, Avilés, La Paca, Zarcilla de Ramos, Campillo, La Campana , Almendricos, San Juan, Río, Torrecilla, San Antonio, Cazalla, Level crossing, Ramonete, Escarihuela, La Candelaria and Los Cegarras.

In the municipality of Lorca there are currently 40 associations of older people under the denominations of Pensioners and Retired Clubs, which bring together more than 4,000 members, according to the information provided by their managers.
