More than 375,000 euros for the rehabilitation and assembly of the arches of the Cloister of Santo Domingo de Lorca
The Council of Government has approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Culture and Portavocía, a grant of 376,915 euros to the City of Lorca for the rehabilitation and assembly of the arches of the Cloister of Santo Domingo.
As a result of the earthquakes suffered in the city of Lorca in May 2011, the Cloister of Santo Domingo suffered considerable damage, which made it absolutely necessary for its rehabilitation and conditioning.
Only three of its four original sides are preserved from the Cloister, and the fourth was eliminated in 1860 with the urban reforms of Alberca, Santo Domingo and Lope Gisbert streets.
The Cloister was erected throughout the seventeenth century, entirely in stone, and in its execution participated the stonemasons Antonio de la Rosa and Lorenzo de Mora.
The works that will be executed in these arches, with degree of protection 1, consist in the restoration of the stony elements of the cloister;
Dismantling and removal of pavement of the square until discovering the rafts of the pillars;
Execution of self-supporting structure, independent of adjacent buildings, for stabilization and bracing of the cloister.
After this, it will proceed to the transport and assembly with relocation in its original situation of all elements of the restored cloister and new lighting will be installed to highlight the arches.
