The regional government will carry out regeneration works in avenues and neighborhoods of the urban center of Lorca and in the road network of the city worth 64.11 million euros during the next year 2017, to complete the recovery of the city after the earthquakes Of 2011.
The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Pedro Rivera, today transferred to businessmen and merchants of Lorca the main investments that will be made by his Department in 2017 to "revitalize the growth and productive activity of the city."
Rivera stressed that the regional government is making a "very important" investment effort so that Lorca "is not only the one we all knew before the earthquakes, but a new and reborn city, with better infrastructure and services" and added that "2017 Will be a decisive year for Lorca. "
The head of the Department of Development stressed that important works will start in major roads and neighborhoods of the city, thanks to an investment of 27.34 million euros, such as the remodeling of the avenues Europe and Santa Clara, the new elevator to the castle and the renovation of the San Antonio neighborhood.
At the moment the renovation of the Altos neighborhoods is under way with the works at El Calvario, San Pedro, Santa María and Ramblilla de San Lázaro, whose works are at 90 percent execution and are expected to be completed shortly.
Work is also underway in the San Cristóbal and Abellaneda neighborhood.
Works to improve the urbanization of Los Angeles and Apolonia neighborhoods will start shortly, for an amount of 3.8 million;
Cervantes Mall, with an investment of 3.2 million;
And on Avenida Juan Carlos I, with a budget of 5 million euros.
Likewise, the works of the neighborhood of La Salud-Cristo Rey are pending adjudication and the works in Santa Clara and Avenida de Europa are being tendered.
Works on roads
Of the 64.11 million, 36.77 million will be invested in new actions on the city's roads, such as access to the Castle, evacuation of the Altos de Lorca neighborhoods, and construction of the stretches I and II of the Central round, as well as repairs of various roads.
The main challenge for 2017 in terms of roads is to work so that the Central round, which responds to a great social demand of the Lorca, is a reality with all the sections in march.
To do this, the next award and start of works of the first two sections of this round are foreseen.
The councilman recalled that 151 kilometers of 20 roads that improve communications within the municipality of Lorca with 25 villages and surrounding settlements have already been arranged and suffered damages as a result of earthquakes.
More than 20 million euros have been invested in these roads.
Likewise in 2017 will finalize the elaboration of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Lorca, in order to ensure a balance between the needs of mobility and accessibility to achieve a better quality of life for its citizens.
In global terms, the Ministry of Development has so far invested a total of 155.2 million in the city, of which more than 80 have been earmarked to pay for the reconstruction and repair of housing and rentals and the rest , 75 million, have been directed to the demolition and rehabilitation of houses and the remodeling of neighborhoods and highways.
