The raft, in poor condition, is near a rambla, lacks proper waterproofing, adequate safety fencing, and its contents are being used to irrigate the adjacent plantations.
Martín recalled that IU-Greens warned of the "serious consequences" for the environment that would lead to the closure three years ago of the two treatment plants and energy cogeneration of pig slurries as a result of the reform of the electricity sector.
In the period since then, the plants have stopped treating 600,000 tons of organic pig waste that are being dumped on the fields as fertilizer, increasing the salinity of the soil and polluting the aquifers.

Other consequences have been the increase in the emission of greenhouse gases and the problems of insalubridad and bad smells that affect to the neighbors of the garden of Lorca who, in spite of the assured by the PP, are suffering serious consequences derived from the dececretazodel of the Executive central.
The closure of these infrastructures, located in El Hinojar and Tercia, also generated a labor problem resulting in the dismissal of about thirty workers and leave workers linked to the transport of slurry from farms to plants.
Following the recent Supreme Court ruling rejecting the ministerial order that forced the closure of slurry treatment plants in 2014, Martín has demanded its reopening and the recovery of the jobs they generated.
In that sense, the mayor of IU-Greens has revealed the "passivity" of the municipal government team of the PP to ensure the activity of these facilities in the last three years, "despite the plenary agreements adopted in this regard" .
