At the outset, the concentration of more than twenty local associations (and some of the local ones), mainly of the socio-sanitary branch, was conceived by the City council as a measure of saving by not having to pay rents of particular places .

Peñas recalls that its initial function was to enable a space for associations that were beginning to grow and needed a physical place in which to develop without having to address the cost of a rental, whose maintenance is something that for NGOs is an issue that Is a serious difficulty.

The mayor says that at the moment about a dozen associations develop their activity in this municipal building, attending together to several hundreds of inhabitants of the municipality of Lorca, as well as of municipalities of the region of Guadalentín in some cases.

From IU-Verdes they think that the use of the house of ONG'S was not defined well from the beginning and has been acting without planning, at forest leap, reason why it is required an urgent reorganization of the spaces to optimize its use And in the opinion of the political formation, this reorganization happens because the City council undertakes to facilitate a center own to the associations that require for their volume a greater physical space, equipped with the necessary equipment and services.

Peñas recalls that several hundred families in Lorca receive some kind of service from the NGOs of the municipality and that these would be, along with professionals who work daily with a great social and solidarity spirit, the biggest beneficiaries of this reorganization that requires this Municipal space that, clearly, has remained small.
