Pedro Sosa, a spokesman for Izquierda Unida Verdes in the city of Lorca, appeared this morning before the media to warn of the situation that is occurring with respect to the use of the Civic Center of San Cristóbal, which has remained under the exclusive control of The Department of Social Services, which the neighbors have to ask permission every time they want to use the facilities.
Sosa has related that the land on which the Center is located was ceded by the family of Francisco Mendez, hence its name, for use and enjoyment of the neighbors, and for this reason, the United Left group proposed, through Of a joint motion in January 2009, that a multi-purpose center was built there, taking advantage of the one-story building where the premises of the residents' association and pensioners were located at that time, a motion that was unanimously approved .
The multipurpose center, which was later built thanks to the ERDF funds, currently houses the Social Services of that area that have "appropriated" the Center and whose council members have to request permission each time they wish to carry out some activity in their halls or in the gym.
Sosa, who does not oppose that the Social Services facilities occupy the same space, demands that social groups instead are not subordinated to this Council and can enjoy independence and control of said center.
Sosa also understands that the City Council has some control over the use that associations make of social premises, so his group also submitted in full October 2010 a motion for a regulation of neighborhood associations to regulate between Other things these uses, regulation of which by the way, in spite of being approved this motion, never more was known, but in the case of the civic center of San Cristóbal more than a control, is an exclusive appropriation of the same one.
