Before the intense episodes of snow, Counseling of Education and City council of Lorca have decided to suspend the classes in all the municipal term.
From the Consistory is recommended to the population to take precautions and avoid road travel unless absolutely necessary
The Ministry of Education and Universities, in coordination with the City of Lorca, has decided to suspend classes tomorrow Thursday January 19, 2017 in ALL EDUCATIONAL CENTERS OF THE MUNICIPAL TERM OF LORCA.
After the initial suspension in the centers of the high districts, for reasons of precaution and to avoid displacement, always prioritizing the safety of students and teachers, it has been decided that there is no class in any school or institute of the municipality of Lorca.
In the same way, from the Consistory recommends to the lorquinos before the cold wave that they do not move by road unless it is absolutely necessary and that as much as possible stay at home.
Finally, remember the following generic tips:
In the event of heavy snow or cold waves:
• Pay attention to radio and TV stations to obtain information from the Meteorological or Civil Protection Institute.
• Have enough batteries for the radio and flashlights.
• If you are going outside, wear several warm and light garments, rather than a single garment of thick fabric.
Avoid tight clothing.
• Mittens are warmer than gloves.
• Allow air to circulate and act as an insulation.
Protect face, head and hands.
• Old people and children should not go out on the street.
• In the event of a blizzard: combination of cold air, snow and strong winds that reduce visibility, it is preferable to avoid outings or displacements.
• Do not perform excessive physical exercises since cold is not good for the heart.
• Take precautions to avoid poisoning by braziers, stoves, coal or gas in enclosed places without air renewal.
Keep a fire extinguisher handy in the event of fire.
• Take care of objects near stoves.
• In the event of heavy frost, keep a slightly open faucet in order to prevent water from freezing.
• Save food and heating.

• In urban centers, clean the sidewalks belonging to the building.
• In rural areas, proceed with the cleaning of access roads to dwellings.
• Collaborate personally and with the means available, in the cleaning of roads and highways.
• Refrain from taking garbage to the street when the collection service is suspended.
• It is advisable to clean snow and ice in front of the façade or sidewalk, without using any water, as it would freeze and aggravate the situation.
In case of accumulation of snow on the roofs, terraces and balconies, in no case should be thrown onto the public road.
Tips for motorists
• Assessing the need and avoiding, as far as possible, road travel in areas affected by snow.
• If traveling, do so.
If possible use public transport.
• If it is necessary to use the vehicle, check tires, antifreeze, spark plugs, lights and brakes.
• Carry in your car: radio, shovel, rope, lantern, clothing, blanket and chains.
• Know the places of refuge along the way.
• Circulate on national roads and during daytime hours.
Avoid traveling at night on secondary roads.
• Be informed by local stations, meteorological institute, traffic and civil protection.
• Ask for prior information on the state of the roads and the weather situation.
• Provide chains and gloves for placement, flashlight, proper footwear and warm clothing.
Try to carry a mobile phone (with power supply) and fill the fuel tank every 100 kilometers.
• Be very careful to take special care with the ice sheets.
It is difficult to determine where in the course they may have formed, although generally the shady areas are the most common.

It is very important to avoid falling asleep.
• Check that the tailpipe outlet is kept clear at all times so that the smoke does not penetrate the car.
• Tune into radio stations that will provide official information on the situation and provide the necessary information.
Driving with ice
