We are talking about pieces of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that were deteriorated by the passage of time and the presence of xylophages.
The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jódar, along with the Councilors of Culture and Employment in the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas and Lali Ibarra, have overseen the work of restoring the furniture that treasured the Palace of Guevara, the most outstanding example of civil baroque in the Mediterranean.
The varied state of conservation in which all these movable goods were made advisable restoration in some cases, or recovery in others, which will allow their exposure in the best possible conditions as well as their long-term preservation.
The First Edil has indicated that the works have been executed oriented to the recovery of the goods that integrate the collection of the Palace of Guevara, contemplating a deep task of revision, cleaning and repair of the furniture.
In order to carry out this work, the availability of the professionals integrated in the workshops of the Department of Employment has been taken advantage of, emphasizing in a concrete way the good work done by the head of the wood workshop, Manolo Mateo, and the restorer Antonio García Rico, who today Imparts an Artistic Carving course.
Jódar Alonso explained that the students of this workshop have actively collaborated in matters of their practical training, such as cleaning of wood, replacement of small sizes, as well as in gold and polychrome.
Many pieces of the collection, especially paintings, are in need of an urgent specialized intervention to stop their deterioration and to return, as far as possible, their original appearance.
The mayor has stated that among the recovered furniture, the 17th and 18th century chests, which have been cleaned of paintings and oils that seriously affect its structure and contemplation, as well as xylophages that threatened its conservation stand out.
The interventions, characterized by a total respect for the original element, have been limited to recompose affected structures and to treat the support pieces that presented very bad state by the use and the humidity.
Jódar Alonso has explained that other furniture, such as tables, sillerías, bargues and entredós, have also been subjected to a thorough cleaning, highlighting the work of readjustment of the numerous pieces that make up the bed of chopsticks of Portuguese style that is in the Main bedroom.
The revision of the furniture that has been treated so far has allowed a better knowledge of each piece and the timely rectification of the inventory in terms of dating and materials.
The First Edil has anticipated that one of the priority objectives for which is being worked by this area of ​​the Municipal Consistory is to proceed to the hiring to recover the great canvases of the lorquino painter Camacho Felices that are still pending.
They are paintings from the end of the 17th century, as well as other paintings of undoubted interest, such as the 6 Flemish Coppers of the Francken workshop, dated to the middle of the sixteenth century, or the great canvas of the Immaculate that adorns the staircase of the House Next to the portrait of Don Juan de Guevara.
After the architectural restoration of the mentioned building of the damages suffered with the earthquakes of 2011, the task of musealization of the building was undertaken, for which a museographic project has already been drafted, which will allow the display of the extensive range of movable goods that make up the Collection of the House, including paintings, sculptures, engravings, lithographs, furniture from different eras, musical instruments, ceramics, glass and even weapons.

Next to the purely furniture elements of the Palace of Guevara, it is possible to emphasize the presence of a series of 7 fencing florets of the XIX century along with several protective masks and protectors of the swords (caps), besides 4 sabers of cavalry, as well as one Series of firearms dating back to the eighteenth century consisting of 3 pistols, 1 blunderbuss and a shotgun (antecedent of the rifle).
It is a series of elements that belonged to the owners and residents of the House and who appeared years ago in the library room.
