The Minister of Fomento and the mayor meet with neighbors, to present the remodeling project of the road
The works of urban renewal and modernization of the Avenida Juan Carlos I de Lorca, one of the city's main streets, started today to integrally transform the urban center of the city.
The objective is to promote this axis of the social life and economic activity of the city, for which the Community allocates a budget of five million euros.
The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Pedro Rivera, and the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, attended today at the beginning of the works of the first section, which are executed by the city council and which comprise from the Secondary Education Institute Ramon Arcas to the avenue Santa Clara.
The actions will be compatibilizar, with the social and commercial activity and the celebration of Holy Week.
Rivera stressed that the urban renewal of Juan Carlos I Avenue "will link accessibility, sustainability, the promotion of more areas dedicated to pedestrians and green spaces and the provision of better services to consolidate a better quality of life for Lorca."
"This transformation will mean creating a new urban center to meet the many challenges linked to the growth of the city and the economic and commercial activity of Lorca," said the head of the Ministry of Development.
The minister said that these works are part of the commitment of the regional government with the recovery of Lorca and "offer a perspective of growth and continuous renewal, which starts from a vocation to improve and modernize existing services."
The work will involve the renewal of existing urban services networks, including drinking water, sanitation, electricity, gas and telecommunications, as well as lighting, storm water networks, container dumps and the implementation of Information and communication that promote a sustainable city ('smart city').
It will also give greater prominence to pedestrians with wider sidewalks and new pedestrian zones to facilitate the movement of this main artery of the city, while removing architectural barriers to facilitate access to buildings and businesses and mobility through Urban center of Lorca.
The full performance, which will run for a year, will also involve the construction of two new roundabouts, one at the intersection of Juan Carlos I Avenue and Fajardo el Bravo Street and another in its connection with Santa Clara Avenue, and the remodeling Of the streets Serrallo, Poet Carlos Mellado, Floridablanca, José Espinosa Pomares, Plaza de Colón, Esplanade of the Station, the malls of the Constitution, Menchirón, Ramón y Cajal and his crossing, and that of Journalist López Barnés.
