The mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, has made a balance of the sports calendar in the municipality for 2017 and its incidence in the visits to the city that with the name of "Sport + Tourism" sets in motion the Department of Sports.
Jódar has announced that "during this year our municipality will host 46 regional, national and international competitions in which more than 23,000 athletes from all over the world will participate, according to the forecasts of the different federations and clubs. Spectators, in a clear bet by the sports tourism that displaces each year to 2.5 million tourists to our country.
The Mayor stressed that "Lorca is a city of sport and therefore we are able to develop this ambitious agenda which also means a further step towards the deseasonalization of tourism through the celebration of regional, national and international sporting events. We will hold up to 11 Spanish championships and 3 world-wide events in which athletes from all over Spain will participate, accompanied by both amateurs and their families, in the case of grassroots sports. "
Regarding international events, Jódar said that "this weekend we will have the first one: the Lorca O-Meeting Guidance that will bring together 900 runners. On 30 August the Tour of Spain will depart from the City of the Sun where thousands of Fans will meet, as well as the TVE cameras that will broadcast the event to 1.5 million viewers.In December we will celebrate the 6th International Chess City Tournament of Lorca in which 200 chess players from around the world will participate.
As for the national events, the First Edil has stressed that "we will have 17 tests with a forecast of partition of more than 13,000 people. Regarding the regional calendar of sporting events, Jódar announced that "we will host 26 regional competitions that will bring together almost 8,000 participants. In fact, in these first weeks of the year, the Peña Madridista Christmas Tournament has been held, the days for the Volleyball teaching, the criteria of launches, Indoor Cup Federation, Coy Kings Race, Table Tennis Day, Cross Regional League, FEDEMIPS swimming day, FEAPES League Day, Regional School Final of Table Tennis, etc. During 2017 we will have school competitions like the day of Swimming that this weekend will gather 250 participants or the end of Field through March that will take part 700 young people, but also the Local Circuit of Popular Races , Regional League and Tournament Interescuelas of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Faster Cup, Espartaria Routes of trekking and mountain bike, the Solidary Route of La Paca, Custom Lorca, Regional Championship of Cycling in Road, Trail of Ramonete and a long etcetera of tests of regional impact ".
