The Department of Health, in collaboration with the University of Murcia, arranged and analyzed a total of 130 traps during the last year, in which only 2 detected a minimum of their presence, proceeding to the fumigation and elimination of their breeding places.
The Councilor for Health and Consumption in the City of Lorca, Maria del Carmen Ruiz, has reported that the control plan against the presence of the tiger mosquito established by the Consistory in collaboration with various entities and administrations, is managing to minimize the appearance Of this species.
The Office of Health has explained that since the start of this operation is carrying out a campaign of detection by the municipal technical services.
It should be noted that from 9 May to 6 July last year, periodic and continuous entomological surveillance was carried out in the urban nucleus of the city and its periphery.
To this end, 15 double egg traps were arranged, of which 4 biweekly collections were made.
These are traps that serve to detect a possible reproductive activity of the tiger mosquito.
Ruiz Jódar has exposed that during the past year a total of 130 traps were arranged, that after completing the process of analysis, resulted in the detection of only 2 positives.
It was the entrance of the cemetery of San Clemente and a private dwelling located on the road to Granada.
In the case of the cemetery, the trap returned to positive in the third collection but after proceeding to a fumigation of the area, the samples were negative.
In the case of housing, it returned positive in the fourth, proceeding to the elimination of the large number of containers for pots with water that their owners used as irrigation system for their plants.
The presence of the adult mosquito has not been noticed subsequently.
Ruiz Jódar also explained that two other adult mosquito traps Biogents (BG Mosquitaire) were installed in the residence of elderly people Domingo Sastre and in the gardens of the Palace of Guevara.
The catch bags were collected weekly from October 20 to December 5, not detecting presence of tiger mosquito in any of the samples.
Ongoing training of municipal technicians
The Health Minister has indicated that recently (7,8 and 9 February) the municipal veterinarians have attended the course "Entomological monitoring and control of the tiger mosquito" carried out by the University of Murcia, to expand knowledge regarding identification of larvae And pupae and methods of monitoring and control.
It should be added that the Department of Health initiated a public awareness campaign for the elimination of breeding sites, since the attitude of citizens is crucial to combat this species.
To this end, 5,000 brochures were distributed in coordination with the Ministry of Health and distributed to the municipality.
A talk was also given on May 26 at the Alto Guadalentín Adult Education Center and several talks at the Narciso Yepes and Ciudad del Sol schools for first, second and third elementary school children in June.

In this sense, all efforts have been focused on the monitoring of the same, establishing hundreds of controls throughout the municipality of Lorca (through oviposition traps) that detected minimal presence of this species for the first time in December 2015. The councils So that among all we can keep their presence very low are the following:
